How much does the DATRON MXCube cost?
Price estimate
We do not have a price for the DATRON MXCube that we can stand behind, so we show no number. Configuration, options and installation move the final price a long way: a quote is the reliable figure.
Overview
The DATRON MXCube comes in two spindle versions that are different enough to treat as two machines. The MXCube 4 kW has a 4.0 kW (5.4 hp) HF spindle running to 40,000 rpm with an HSK-E 25 interface. The MXCube 8 kW has an 8.0 kW (10.7 hp) spindle running to 34,000 rpm with HSK-E 32. Both sit on one frame: 1,040 x 850 x 270 mm (40.9 x 33.5 x 10.6 in) of travel and a work envelope of 1,000 mm x 700 mm x 205 mm (39.4 in x 27.6 in x 8.1 in), the last figure being the portal passage.
The spindle choice sets the tool limits. With the 4 kW spindle the maximum tool diameter is 20 mm (0.8 in) and the maximum shank diameter 10 mm (0.4 in). With the 8 kW spindle those rise to 24 mm (0.9 in) and 12 mm (0.5 in). The diameters apply to monoblock or stepped end mills. Two capabilities belong to the 8 kW spindle alone: internal tool cooling, and thread cutting up to M5.
The magazine differs as well. The DATRON ToolAssist holds 60 or 143 stations with the 4 kW spindle and 60 or 110 with the 8 kW. So does the electrical connection: 10 kW on a CEE 16 A supply for the 4 kW version, 14 kW on CEE 32 A for the 8 kW.
Compared with the M8Cube, which covers a similar envelope at approximately 1,300 kg (2,866 lb), the MXCube is a much heavier build at approximately 3,800 kg (8,377 lb). It has a listed table load of 500 kg (1,102 lb), and feed and rapid rates of up to 40 m/min (1,575 ipm). The bed is mineral cast with an integrated conical thread, as a full or cut-out table.
It is a 3-axis machine as standard. DATRON Axis4 and Axis5 are listed as options for 3+1 and 3+2 work, the rotary option row also names DST, and the DATRON 3D probe is optional.

Strengths & Limitations
Strengths
- Two spindle versions: 4.0 kW (5.4 hp) to 40,000 rpm with HSK-E 25, or 8.0 kW (10.7 hp) to 34,000 rpm with HSK-E 32
- The 8 kW spindle adds internal tool cooling and thread cutting up to M5
- Rapid traverse and cutting feed up to 40 m/min (1,575 ipm), against up to 22 m/min (866 ipm) on the M8Cube
- Table load of 500 kg (1,102 lb) on a mineral-cast bed, in a machine weighing approximately 3,800 kg (8,377 lb)
- DATRON ToolAssist with up to 143 stations on the 4 kW version and up to 110 stations on the 8 kW version
- The power requirement is published: 10 kW on CEE 16 A for the 4 kW version, 14 kW on CEE 32 A for the 8 kW version
Limitations
- Maximum tool diameter is 20 mm (0.8 in) with the 4 kW spindle and 24 mm (0.9 in) with the 8 kW spindle, so larger cutters are excluded
- Internal tool cooling and thread cutting are limited to the 8 kW spindle, and thread cutting stops at M5
- The 8 kW version tops out at 34,000 rpm and 110 stations, lower than the 4 kW version on both counts
- Portal passage is 205 mm (8.1 in) and Z travel 270 mm (10.6 in), which keeps part and fixture height low
- The DATRON 3D probe and the Axis4 and Axis5 rotary axes are options

Frequently Asked Questions
01
The spindle and everything tied to it. The 4 kW version has 4.0 kW (5.4 hp), 40,000 rpm, HSK-E 25, a ToolAssist with 60 or 143 stations and a 10 kW connection on CEE 16 A. The 8 kW version has 8.0 kW (10.7 hp), 34,000 rpm, HSK-E 32, 60 or 110 stations and a 14 kW connection on CEE 32 A. Internal tool cooling and thread cutting up to M5 are listed for the 8 kW spindle only. Travels, table load and feed rates are the same.
02
With the 4 kW spindle, a tool diameter of 20 mm (0.8 in) on a shank of up to 10 mm (0.4 in). With the 8 kW spindle, 24 mm (0.9 in) on a shank of up to 12 mm (0.5 in). DATRON states the diameter limit for monoblock or stepped end mills, which is how a cutter can be wider than its shank.
03
Only with the 8 kW spindle, and up to M5. Thread cutting is not listed for the 4 kW version. The 8 kW spindle is also the only one listed with internal tool cooling, so if either feature matters the choice of version is already made.
04
The 4 kW version is listed at 10 kW on a CEE 16 A connection. The 8 kW version is listed at 14 kW on a CEE 32 A connection. Deciding between the versions therefore includes checking which supply is available where the machine will stand.
05
The work envelopes are close: 1,000 mm x 700 mm x 205 mm (39.4 in x 27.6 in x 8.1 in) on the MXCube. The M8Cube weighs approximately 1,300 kg (2,866 lb), offers spindles from 1.8 kW to 4.0 kW (2.4 hp to 5.4 hp) at up to 60,000 rpm and moves at up to 22 m/min (866 ipm). The MXCube weighs approximately 3,800 kg (8,377 lb), offers 4.0 kW or 8.0 kW (5.4 hp or 10.7 hp) and moves at up to 40 m/min (1,575 ipm).
06
The maximum table load is 500 kg (1,102 lb). The table is part of a mineral-cast machine bed with an integrated conical thread and is available as a full or cut-out table. Fixture, any rotary axis and the part all count against the 500 kg.
