How much does the DATRON M8Cube cost?
Price estimate
We do not have a price for the DATRON M8Cube that we can stand behind, so we show no number. Configuration, options and installation move the final price a long way: a quote is the reliable figure.
Overview
The DATRON M8Cube is a three-axis portal machine with a high-frequency spindle: 1,020 x 830 x 245 mm (40.2 x 32.7 x 9.6 in) of travel, up to 60,000 rpm, and between 1.8 kW and 4.0 kW (2.4 hp and 5.4 hp) of spindle power depending on the spindle fitted. DATRON gives the usable work envelope as 1,000 mm x 700 mm x 200 mm (39.4 in x 27.6 in x 7.9 in). The Z figure there is the portal passage, so part and fixture together have to clear that height.
Those proportions say what the machine is for. A working area of 1,000 mm x 700 mm under a 200 mm passage is an envelope for plates, panels and shallow housings, and a spindle that peaks at 4.0 kW but runs to 60,000 rpm is meant for small-diameter tools taking light, fast cuts. Rapid traverse and cutting feed are both listed at up to 22 m/min (866 ipm).
Most of the buying decisions are in the tooling. Tools are held by direct shank or in HSK-E 25 holders. The integrated changer has 5, 12 or 15 stations with an integrated length sensor, and 10, 24 or 30 stations are optional. The alternative is the DATRON ToolAssist with 60 or 143 stations, which works with HSK-E 25.
As delivered this is a 3-axis machine. The optional DATRON Axis4 and Axis5 take it to 3+1 or 3+2, the rotary option row also names DST, and the DATRON 3D probe for workpiece measurement is an option as well. Linear encoders are not fitted. DATRON lists a separate M8Cube LS variant with linear encoders in X and Y.
The bed is mineral cast with an integrated conical thread, as a full or cut-out table. Cooling is minimum-quantity lubrication through a 4-nozzle spray ring, fed from one 10-liter tank or two. With the operating terminal the machine measures 2,380 mm x 1,740 mm x 1,970 mm (93.7 in x 68.5 in x 77.6 in) and weighs approximately 1,300 kg (2,866 lb). The MLCube, the larger machine with the same spindle range, is listed at approximately 2,500 kg (5,512 lb).

Strengths & Limitations
Strengths
- HF spindle runs to 60,000 rpm with 1.8 kW to 4.0 kW (2.4 hp to 5.4 hp), a combination aimed at small-diameter tools
- Work envelope of 1,000 mm x 700 mm x 200 mm (39.4 in x 27.6 in x 7.9 in) on a machine weighing approximately 1,300 kg (2,866 lb)
- Tool capacity scales from 5 integrated stations up to a DATRON ToolAssist with 60 or 143 stations
- The integrated tool changer includes a length sensor; on the MLCube that sensor is listed as an option
- Optional DATRON Axis4 and Axis5 extend the machine from 3 axes to 3+1 or 3+2
- Footprint without the operating terminal is 1,740 mm x 1,740 mm (68.5 in x 68.5 in)
Limitations
- The portal passage is 200 mm (7.9 in) and Z travel 245 mm (9.6 in), which rules out tall parts and tall fixtures
- Spindle power stops at 4.0 kW (5.4 hp), so heavy roughing with large cutters is outside what this machine is built for
- Linear encoders are not fitted; DATRON lists them only on the M8Cube LS variant, in X and Y
- The DATRON 3D probe and the Axis4 and Axis5 rotary axes are options, so a base machine is 3-axis without workpiece probing
- Feed and rapid traverse are listed at up to 22 m/min (866 ipm), where the MXCube reaches up to 40 m/min (1,575 ipm)

Frequently Asked Questions
01
The work envelope is 1,000 mm x 700 mm x 200 mm (39.4 in x 27.6 in x 7.9 in). The 200 mm figure is the portal passage, meaning the clear height under the portal, so the part plus whatever holds it must stay below that. Axis travel is slightly larger at 1,020 mm (40.2 in) in X, 830 mm (32.7 in) in Y and 245 mm (9.6 in) in Z.
02
DATRON lists an HF spindle between 1.8 kW and 4.0 kW (2.4 hp and 5.4 hp) with a maximum of 60,000 rpm. Tools go in by direct shank or in HSK-E 25 holders. The table gives one top speed for the whole range and does not say which power rating reaches it, so confirm speed and tool interface for the specific spindle you are quoted.
03
It depends on the changer. The integrated version has 5, 12 or 15 stations and comes with an integrated length sensor; 10, 24 or 30 stations are optional. The other route is the DATRON ToolAssist with 60 or 143 stations, which is listed with HSK-E 25 tooling.
04
The base machine has 3 axes. DATRON lists 3+1 and 3+2 configurations with the optional DATRON Axis4 and Axis5, and the rotary option row also names DST. These are options, so a quotation needs to state which rotary unit is included.
05
No. The table lists linear encoders as not fitted on the M8Cube. DATRON offers an M8Cube LS variant that has linear encoders in X and Y. If your tolerances depend on direct position measurement, ask for the LS variant by name.
06
With the operating terminal it measures 2,380 mm x 1,740 mm x 1,970 mm (93.7 in x 68.5 in x 77.6 in); without it, 1,740 mm x 1,740 mm x 1,970 mm (68.5 in x 68.5 in x 77.6 in). Weight is approximately 1,300 kg (2,866 lb). The table gives no electrical or compressed-air figures, so request those before planning the installation.
