Danobat MTG XLD — price

Price estimate: uncertain

We have no price for the Danobat MTG XLD that we can cite and no estimate we can stand behind, so this page shows no number rather than a guess. A quote from Danobat or an authorised dealer is the reliable figure.

What moves the final price

  • Spindle, control and probing options
  • Tool changer capacity and tooling package
  • Automation — pallet changers, bar feeders, robot cells
  • Freight, rigging, installation and training
  • Region, dealer and time of year

Overview

The Danobat MTG XLD is the large-diameter MikroTurnGrind, a horizontal hybrid that hard turns parts up to 680 mm (26.8 in) and fine grinds within Ø260 x 350 mm (10.2 x 13.8 in). Danobat's summary of the horizontal hybrid, parts up to Ø260x350 mm in size, quotes this model's grinding envelope.

Two figures are surprising for a machine with that swing. Floor space is 7 m² (75 sqft), barely more than the 6.5 m² (70 sqft) of the MTG-100. And the spindle speed is 4,000 rpm, the same as the small model, where the comparable turning-only Mikroturn 100 XLD is listed at 2,000 rpm. Both figures are printed consistently in the metric and imperial tables. A chuck sized for a 680 mm (26.8 in) part will not in practice run at the full speed, so the usable speed for a given workholding set-up is worth asking about.

The table also carries a positioning row for this model: zero point clamping system. Danobat does not expand on it, but a zero point interface is the usual way to make a removable unit repeat its location, and the page says the grinding spindle can be assembled and disassembled in two minutes.

As on every MikroTurnGrind, turning does the bulk of the work and grinding finishes the surfaces that need it, in one clamping. Stated workpiece results are dimensional accuracies of ≤ 2 µm, roundness of ≤ 0.5 µm and 0.1 – 0.2 µm (Ra). The hydrostatic main spindle is guaranteed to a runout error of ≤ 0.1 µm and the guideways hold 1 µm positioning and 0.2 µm repeatability. Base and spindle housing are natural granite with an integrated vibration-dampening system.

Strengths & Limitations

Strengths

  • 680 mm (26.8 in) turning diameter, the largest of the horizontal hybrids
  • Grinding capacity of Ø260 x 350 mm (10.2 x 13.8 in), twice the diameter of the MTG-100
  • Only 7 m² (75 sqft) of floor space
  • Zero point clamping system listed for positioning
  • Roundness of ≤ 0.5 µm and dimensional accuracies of ≤ 2 µm quoted on the workpiece
  • Natural granite base with an integrated vibration-dampening system

Limitations

  • Grinding length is 350 mm, no longer than on the smaller model
  • The 4,000 rpm figure applies to a machine swinging 680 mm (26.8 in) and needs checking against the chuck in use
  • Grinding diameter of 260 mm covers well under half the turning diameter
  • No workpiece weight, spindle power or grinding wheel data is published

Best For

Large rings and discs that need one ground bore or seat after hard turning Parts up to Ø260 x 350 mm (10.2 x 13.8 in) finished by grinding in the turning set-up Hardened components where bore-to-diameter concentricity depends on a single clamping Small and medium batches that would otherwise visit a lathe and a grinder

Frequently Asked Questions

01 What are the capacities of the MTG XLD?

Maximum turning diameter 680 mm (26.8 in); maximum machining capacity for grinding Ø260 x 350 mm (10.2 x 13.8 in); spindle speed 4,000 rpm; Siemens Sinumerik One control; floor space 7 m² (75 sqft). Positioning is listed as a zero point clamping system.

02 How does the MTG XLD differ from the MTG-100?

Diameter. The MTG-100 turns up to 380 mm (14.9 in) and grinds within Ø130 x 350 mm (5.1 x 13.8 in). The MTG XLD turns up to 680 mm (26.8 in) and grinds within Ø260 x 350 mm (10.2 x 13.8 in). Spindle speed and control are the same, and floor space differs by half a square metre.

03 Does the MTG XLD really fit in 7 m²?

That is what Danobat prints: 7 m² in the metric table and 75 sqft in the imperial one. For comparison, the turning-only Mikroturn 100 XLD, with a 610 mm (24 in) turning diameter, is listed at 8.6 m² (93 sqft). Request a layout drawing before planning the cell around the figure.

04 Which surfaces are ground and which are turned on the MTG XLD?

Danobat's description is to hard turn complex shapes and then finish grind specific surfaces, applying the most suitable process to each surface in a single clamping. It gives small surfaces and inner diameters as the typical cases for grinding. The choice is made per feature in the program.
