How much does the Danobat Mikroturn 500 XL cost?
Price estimate
We do not have a price for the Danobat Mikroturn 500 XL that we can stand behind, so we show no number. Configuration, options and installation move the final price a long way: a quote is the reliable figure.
Overview
The Danobat Mikroturn 500 XL is the big-frame single-spindle model of the Mikroturn hard turning range: 500 mm (19.7 in) of turning diameter without a tailstock, a 2,000 rpm spindle and 12.5 m² (134.5 sqft) of floor space. Among the horizontal Mikroturn lathes only the Twin spindle machine occupies more floor.
The published table is thin for this model, and that has to be said plainly. It gives a diameter, a speed, a control and a footprint. The between-centers row is marked not applicable. There is no travel, no part weight and no spindle power. A reader comparing it with the Mikroturn 100 XLD will notice that the XLD turns a larger diameter, 610 mm (24 in), in 8.6 m² (93 sqft). What the 500 XL offers for its extra floor is not stated on the page, and it is the first question to put to Danobat.
What is known is the platform, which is the same on every Mikroturn. Spindle and guideways are hydrostatic. Runout error on the main spindle is guaranteed at ≤ 0.1 µm. The guideways position to 1 µm and repeat to 0.2 µm under linear scales. The control, Siemens Sinumerik One on this model, resolves 0.01 µm. Base and spindle housing are natural granite on vibration absorbing mounts, and heat sources sit outside the machining area.
The machine is aimed at hardened workpieces up to 70 HRC in small and medium batches. Danobat puts changeover and set-up at under 30 minutes in many cases, and lists a part probe, tool measurement and a tool wear measurement camera system for process control.

Strengths & Limitations
Strengths
- 500 mm (19.7 in) turning diameter on a hydrostatic hard turning platform
- Main spindle runout error guaranteed at ≤ 0.1 µm
- Guideways with 1 µm positioning and 0.2 µm repeatability, controlled by linear scales
- Siemens Sinumerik One control with 0.01 µm resolution
- Natural granite base and spindle housing isolated on vibration absorbing mounts
Limitations
- Second-largest floor space of the horizontal models at 12.5 m² (134.5 sqft)
- Turning diameter is smaller than the 610 mm (24 in) of the Mikroturn 100 XLD
- Between-centers capacity is marked not applicable
- Spindle speed is 2,000 rpm; the table gives no power, torque, travel or part weight

Frequently Asked Questions
01
Four table rows: a maximum turning diameter without tailstock of 500 mm (19.7 in), a spindle speed of 2,000 rpm, a Siemens Sinumerik One control and a floor space of 12.5 m² (134.5 sqft). The between-centers row is marked not applicable. Accuracy figures on the page apply to the whole Mikroturn range.
02
On the published figures the Mikroturn 100 XLD turns the larger diameter, 610 mm (24 in), and needs less floor, 8.6 m² (93 sqft). Both run at 2,000 rpm. The Mikroturn 500 XL is the physically larger machine at 12.5 m² (134.5 sqft), but the page does not list the travels or load that would explain the difference.
03
Not on the evidence of the table, which gives no between-centers capacity for it. The model with a shaft rating is the Mikroturn 100 XLS at Ø240 x 1,000 mm (Ø9.4 x 39.3 in). Tailstock and steady rest are listed as options for the range, so the question is worth raising if the parts are short and heavy.
04
Danobat publishes platform figures: ≤ 0.1 µm guaranteed runout error on the hydrostatic main spindle, 1 µm positioning and 0.2 µm repeatability on the hydrostatic guideways, and 0.01 µm control resolution. Workpiece tolerances for the horizontal models are not quoted on the page.
