How much does the CMS Ikon cost?
Price estimate
We do not have a price for the CMS Ikon that we can stand behind, so we show no number. Configuration, options and installation move the final price a long way: a quote is the reliable figure.
Overview
The CMS Ikon turns the usual 5-axis layout on its side. The work is clamped on vertical tables and one or two horizontal operating units machine it from the front, in aluminium or composites. There are 2 vertical rotary tables, so one can be loaded while the other is in the cut.
Chips are the practical reason for the geometry. On a vertical table they fall away from the part instead of collecting in pockets, and CMS fits a motorized belt underneath to carry them out, with suction inlets for the dust. Trimming and drilling of large skins and panels, where swarf and dust otherwise pile up on a flat bed, is the natural application.
Two models are listed. The IKON has an X-axis stroke of 3,600 mm (141.7 in). The IKON DB, for Double Bridge, has two operating units with 2,400 mm (94.5 in) of X each, which can machine 2 workpieces at once or work together on one large part. Y is 2,000 mm (78.7 in) and Z is 900 mm (35.4 in) on both, the A axis has ±120° and the C axis ±270°.
Quick speeds are 80 m/min in X and Y and 70 m/min in Z, with 9000 °/min on both rotary axes. CMS claims the footprint is 41% smaller than usual configurations and offers a total enclosure for dust, chips and noise. Spindle and tool changer data are not in the table.

Strengths & Limitations
Strengths
- 2 vertical rotary tables allow loading and unloading without stopping the machine
- IKON DB version with two 5-axis operating units for 2 workpieces at once
- Chips fall clear of the vertical table onto a motorized evacuation belt
- Quick speeds of 80 m/min in X and Y and 70 m/min in Z
- Footprint 41% smaller than usual configurations, according to CMS
Limitations
- Z-axis stroke of 900 mm (35.4 in) limits part depth from the table face
- C axis is limited to ±270°
- Each bridge of the IKON DB has 2,400 mm (94.5 in) of X, less than the 3,600 mm (141.7 in) of the single-unit model
- No spindle, tool magazine or table load data is published

Frequently Asked Questions
01
CMS describes a geometry with vertical rotary tables and horizontal operating units. Chips drop away from the workpiece because of the vertical table and a motorized belt evacuates them automatically, while suction inlets handle the dust.
02
DB stands for Double Bridge. It has a double 5-axis operating unit, each bridge with an X-axis stroke of 2,400 mm (94.5 in), for simultaneous machining of 2 workpieces or combined machining of both units on a large-sized workpiece.
03
The IKON has an X-axis stroke of 3,600 mm (141.7 in), a Y-axis stroke of 2,000 mm (78.7 in) and a Z-axis stroke of 900 mm (35.4 in). The A axis has ±120° and the C axis ±270°. The work tables are listed as 3100x1800x2 mm (X-Y).
04
CMS states that the Ikon is a 5-axis machining centre for the processing of aluminium and composites materials. It can be completed with a total enclosure to retain dust, chips and noise.
