Overview

The CHMER DX655C is a CNC die sinker EDM built around CHMER's third-generation discharge circuit, which the maker calls EDM 3.0, and presented under the heading automation of die sinker EDM. Travels are 600 x 500 x 500 mm (23.6 x 19.7 x 19.7 in) on ball screw axes, with a 3,000 kg (6,614 lb) workpiece limit.

Mechanically it lines up with the CM655C of the older CNC series: the same travels, the same 900 x 600 mm table, the same workpiece and 300 kg (661 lb) electrode limits. The difference is in the generator and the motion figures CHMER now publishes. The DX table gives an X and Y feed rate of up to 6,000 mm/min (236 ipm) and a Z-axis jump speed of up to 8,000 mm/min (315 ipm).

Only one power supply is listed, the 60N, with a maximum working current of 60 A and a best surface finish of 0.1 μm Ra. CHMER's claims for the circuit are specific: an energy-saving circuit that reduces input power from 5 kVA to 3.5 kVA, a DPG3 module whose firmware raises machining speed by 30%, and a graphite circuit that reduces carbon buildup. So this is a finishing-oriented machine, not a high-current rougher: the CM655C can be had with 150 A.

Programs are generated automatically after the single-side trimming amount is set, with built-in modes for deep grooves, mirror finishes and terminals. The oil tank measures 1,500 x 1,000 x 560 mm and the DX655 dielectric tank holds 1,300 L (343 gal). Machine weight is 3,500 kg (7,716 lb).

Strengths & Limitations

Strengths

  • Best surface finish of 0.1 μm Ra with the 60N power supply
  • Z-axis jump speed up to 8,000 mm/min (315 ipm) and X, Y feed up to 6,000 mm/min (236 ipm)
  • EDM 3.0 circuit: CHMER states input power reduced from 5 kVA to 3.5 kVA
  • 3,000 kg (6,614 lb) workpiece and 300 kg (661 lb) electrode limits

Frequently Asked Questions

01 What surface finish can the DX655C reach?

The power supply table lists a best surface finish of 0.1 μm Ra and an electrode consumption rate of 0.2% for the 60N unit. CHMER also describes an optimized finishing circuit that improves surface roughness by 25%.

02 What are the travels and capacity of the DX655C?

X, Y, Z axis travel is 600 x 500 x 500 mm (23.6 x 19.7 x 19.7 in). The work table is 900 x 600 mm, the maximum workpiece size 1,350 x 900 x 450 mm, and the limits are 3,000 kg (6,614 lb) for the workpiece and 300 kg (661 lb) for the electrode.

03 How does the DX655C differ from the CM655C?

Travels, table size and load limits match. The DX655C has the EDM 3.0 circuit with a single 60N power supply (60 A, 0.1 μm Ra best finish). The CM655C is offered with 50N to 150N generators, up to 150 A, with a best surface roughness of 0.25 μm Ra.

04 What does CHMER claim for the EDM 3.0 circuit on the DX655C?

An energy-saving circuit that reduces input power from 5 kVA to 3.5 kVA, a DPG3 module whose upgraded firmware boosts machining speed by 30%, a graphite machining circuit that improves efficiency by 30%, and AVR voltage and NR current stabilization for machining stability.
