Overview
The Sodick K4HL is the largest drilling EDM in this group: 400 mm of X, 300 mm of Y and 500 mm of Z travel, plus a separate W axis of 400 mm, over a 750 × 650 mm table that carries workpieces up to 500 kg. Sodick lists it among its drilling machines.
The vertical figures are what set it apart. With 500 mm of Z and 400 mm of W, the K4HL can reach down into tall mould blocks and die sets that the 300 mm Z of the K3BL and K3HS cannot. The table does not say how Z and W combine, so ask Sodick for the maximum part height and electrode length before quoting a tall part.
It is also a big machine to place. The footprint is 1,500 × 2,300 mm and the height 3,000 mm, so check ceiling clearance and crane access for 500 kg parts. Sodick's table gives no electrode diameter range or drilling speed.
