Excetek ED400C — price

Price estimate: uncertain

We have no price for the Excetek ED400C that we can cite and no estimate we can stand behind, so this page shows no number rather than a guess. A quote from Excetek or an authorised dealer is the reliable figure.

What moves the final price

  • Spindle, control and probing options
  • Tool changer capacity and tooling package
  • Automation — pallet changers, bar feeders, robot cells
  • Freight, rigging, installation and training
  • Region, dealer and time of year

Overview

Excetek describes the ED400C as "just enough size for medium mold": a CNC die sinking EDM with 400 mm (15.7 in) of X travel, 300 mm (11.8 in) of Y and 350 mm (13.8 in) of Z over a 700 x 400 mm (27.6 x 15.7 in) work table. It carries workpieces up to 1,000 kg (2,205 lb) and electrodes up to 50 kg (110 lb).

The 1,000 kg rating is the figure to notice. It is nearly double the 550 kg (1,213 lb) of the ED30C for an X stroke only one size larger, which means a steel mold half can go on the table where the smaller machine would be limited to inserts. Maximum workpiece size is printed as 850 x 580 mm (33.5 x 22.8 in), without a height.

This is the largest ED model that keeps its dielectric system inside the machine. The 450 L oil filter tank is built in and uses three paper filters. From the ED600C upward the tank is a separate unit with its own footprint and weight. Here the complete outside dimensions, with body, travel, tank and generator, are 2,344 x 2,110 x 2,410 mm (92.3 x 83.1 x 94.9 in), and the machine weighs 2,800 kg (6,173 lb).

Spark generation is by MOSFET circuit. Excetek notes that the generator separates hot components from cold circuits with a double heat flow system, and that its front and back modules carry fuse protection to make board changes simple. Orbiting comes from 18 kinds of OB modes according to the ED Series catalogue, which also lists edge finding and inner, outer and corner centre measurement. Oil cooling, a permanent magnetic pedestal and the tungsten carbide sparking circuit are options.

Strengths & Limitations

Strengths

  • 1,000 kg (2,205 lb) workpiece capacity on a 700 x 400 mm (27.6 x 15.7 in) table
  • Built-in 450 L oil filter tank with 3 paper filters, so no separate tank unit
  • 350 mm (13.8 in) of Z travel for deep cavities
  • Generator with separate heat flow for hot components and cold circuits
  • 18 kinds of OB modes and edge, inner, outer and corner centre measurement in the ED Series catalogue

Limitations

  • Maximum electrode weight is 50 kg (110 lb); the ED400C CE page lists 100 kg (220 lb)
  • Workpiece size is given as 850 x 580 mm (33.5 x 22.8 in) with no height figure
  • At 2,800 kg (6,173 lb) it is heavier than the ED400C CE at 2,500 kg (5,511 lb)
  • Oil cooling system is an option, not part of the standard accessories

Frequently Asked Questions

01 What are the travels of the ED400C?

400 mm (15.7 in) in X, 300 mm (11.8 in) in Y and 350 mm (13.8 in) in Z. The work table measures 700 x 400 mm (27.6 x 15.7 in) and the maximum workpiece size is listed as 850 x 580 mm (33.5 x 22.8 in).

02 What is the difference between the ED400C and the ED400C CE?

Travels and the 1,000 kg (2,205 lb) workpiece weight are the same. The ED400C CE table shows a 650 x 400 mm (25.6 x 15.7 in) work table, a 100 kg (220 lb) electrode weight, a 2,500 kg (5,511 lb) machine weight and two paper filters. The ED400C has a 700 x 400 mm table, a 50 kg (110 lb) electrode limit, weighs 2,800 kg (6,173 lb) and uses three filters.

03 Does the ED400C need a separate dielectric tank?

No. The oil filter tank row gives a capacity of 450 L and states the outside dimensions as built-in. The overall figure of 2,344 x 2,110 x 2,410 mm (92.3 x 83.1 x 94.9 in) already includes tank and generator.

04 What comes as standard with the ED400C?

The standard accessories are an alcohol extinguisher, working lamp, leveling pads, flushing unit, paper filter, 1/2 drill chuck, tool box and clamp jig. An oil cooling system, a permanent magnetic pedestal and a tungsten carbide sparking circuit are listed as options.
