Overview
The GF Machining Solutions AgieCharmilles CUT S 800 is the largest machine in the CUT S performance series — a large-format wire EDM with X/Y/Z travels of 800 x 600 x 510 mm and U/V travel of 800 x 600 mm. This is GF's answer for shops cutting the largest die plates, mold bases, and structural components that exceed the capacity of standard wire EDM machines.
The 510 mm Z travel is the standout specification — nearly double the CUT S 400's 256 mm and significantly exceeding the CUT S 600's 356 mm. This enables cutting through the thickest die blocks and tallest mold components without setup compromises. Maximum workpiece weight capacity of 3,000 kg accommodates the heaviest workpieces encountered in large stamping die, forging die, and heavy mold production.
The CUT S 800 supports wire diameters from 0.05 to 0.30 mm with the same Ra 0.08 micrometers surface finish capability as the entire CUT S family. Taper capability of +/-30 degrees over 510 mm height, with optional 45-degree capacity, enables aggressive clearance angles through extremely tall sections — a critical capability for large progressive die and extrusion die applications.
The UNIQUA HMI provides the same modern control interface across all CUT S models. Machine dimensions of 2,670 x 3,100 x 2,950 mm represent a substantial footprint, but the CUT S 800 serves a market where few wire EDMs offer this combination of travel, Z depth, weight capacity, and surface finish quality.

Strengths & Limitations
Strengths
- 800 x 600 mm X/Y travel is the largest in the CUT S family for oversized die plates and mold bases
- 510 mm Z travel handles the thickest workpieces — nearly double the CUT S 400's capacity
- 3,000 kg workpiece weight capacity accommodates the heaviest die blocks in production
- Ra 0.08 micrometers surface finish maintained despite the large-format envelope
- +/-30 deg taper through 510 mm height covers the most demanding clearance angle requirements
- UNIQUA HMI provides consistent operator experience across the CUT S family
Limitations
- At $300K-$450K, significant investment for the large-format capability
- Substantial 2,670 x 3,100 mm footprint requires dedicated floor space with overhead clearance
- 3,000 kg capacity requires appropriate lifting equipment and floor loading considerations
- Lacks the CUT X series AI-driven discharge optimization for complex-geometry cutting

Frequently Asked Questions
01
The CUT S 800 has 32% more X travel (800 vs 605 mm), 48% more Y travel (600 vs 405 mm), 43% more Z travel (510 vs 356 mm), and double the workpiece weight capacity (3,000 vs 1,500 kg). Both share the same wire range, finish capability, UNIQUA control, and taper specs. The 800 targets the largest workpieces that exceed the 600's envelope.
02
The 510 mm Z travel defines the maximum workpiece height. In practice, cutting through 500+ mm of hardened steel is at the extreme end of wire EDM capability — cutting speed decreases and flushing becomes challenging at these depths. For most production applications, the 510 mm Z enables comfortable cutting of workpieces up to approximately 450 mm with good flushing conditions.
03
Yes. The CUT S 800 achieves Ra 0.08 micrometers best surface finish — identical to the CUT S 400 and 600. Surface finish capability is determined by the generator and wire technology, not the machine envelope size.
04
Loading 3,000 kg workpieces requires an overhead crane or heavy-duty forklift with appropriate rated capacity, plus rigging equipment for safe positioning on the worktable. The machine's work tank must be lowered before loading heavy workpieces. Floor loading at the machine location must also support the combined weight of the machine and maximum workpiece.
