Chevalier FBL-520 MC — price

Price estimate: uncertain

We have no price for the Chevalier FBL-520 MC that we can cite and no estimate we can stand behind, so this page shows no number rather than a guess. A quote from Chevalier Machinery or an authorised dealer is the reliable figure.

What moves the final price

  • Spindle, control and probing options
  • Tool changer capacity and tooling package
  • Automation — pallet changers, bar feeders, robot cells
  • Freight, rigging, installation and training
  • Region, dealer and time of year

Overview

The Chevalier FBL-520 MC adds live tooling to the two-metre bed of Chevalier's largest slant-bed lathes. Z travel is 78.7 in (2,000 mm), maximum cutting diameter Ø34.6 in (880 mm), and the 12-tool turret carries driven tools for drilling and milling along the length of a shaft.

One figure a buyer would expect is not on this page. The maker prints a cutting length for the FBL-520 MC that is longer than the Z travel printed for the same model, which cannot be, so the row is left out. Tailstock travel is 78.7 in (2,000 mm), equal to Z, and the turning-only FBL-520 on the same bed lists a cutting length of 78.7 in (2,000 mm).

Keyways are the obvious use. A heavy shaft that has been turned between centers can have its keyseats, lifting holes and end drilling done before it leaves the machine, and at 41,800 lb (19,000 kg) the lathe is not short of mass for interrupted cuts. Milling is on the spindle centerline, since no Y axis is listed.

Be ready to ask questions, though. Driven tool speed, power and the tool system are not in the table, and neither is a spindle motor row; the page says only that the lathe features up to a 60HP spindle motor. The spindle nose is A2-15 and the speed 1,000 rpm. The swing is Ø39.4 in (1,000 mm) over the bed and Ø31.5 in (800 mm) over the cover, and the control is a Fanuc 0i-T.

Strengths & Limitations

Strengths

  • Driven tools over 78.7 in (2,000 mm) of Z travel
  • Ø34.6 in (880 mm) cutting diameter
  • 41,800 lb (19,000 kg) of machine for interrupted milling cuts
  • Tailstock with an MT 6 quill and 78.7 in (2,000 mm) of travel
  • A2-15 spindle nose for large chucks

Limitations

  • The maker's cutting length row contradicts the Z travel and is not shown
  • No tool system or driven tool rating is published
  • No Y axis in the specification
  • Spindle speed stops at 1,000 rpm

Frequently Asked Questions

01 What is the cutting length of the FBL-520 MC?

The maker's table does not give a usable figure: the cutting length printed for this model exceeds its own Z-axis travel of 78.7 in (2,000 mm). The row is left out here. Tailstock travel is also 78.7 in (2,000 mm).

02 What diameter does it cut?

Maximum cutting diameter is Ø34.6 in (880 mm). Swing over bed is Ø39.4 in (1,000 mm) and swing over cover Ø31.5 in (800 mm). The FBL-520 without live tooling lists Ø37 in (940 mm).

03 What turret does the FBL-520 MC have?

The table lists 12 tools with a turning tool size of 1 1/4 in x 1 1/4 in on S.A.E. machines or 32 x 32 mm on metric ones. Chevalier says the MC model has the live tooling function. The interface type and the driven tool speed are not stated.

04 How much space and weight should be planned for?

Floor space is 299.2 in x 117.2 in x 99.6 in (7,602 x 2,983 x 2,530 mm), and the net weight is 41,800 lb (19,000 kg). Both figures are the same as for the FBL-520.
