Price estimate
We do not have a price for the Sharp SVX-500-F that we can stand behind, so we show no number. Configuration, options and installation move the final price a long way: a quote is the reliable figure.
Overview
Unlike the two smaller SVX machines, the Sharp SVX-500-F is a box-in-box design: the spindle head moves in X and Y on top of a closed casting while the trunnion, anchored to the side walls, carries the part. Travels are 23.6 in (600 mm) in X, 31.9 in (810 mm) in Y and 19.7 in (500 mm) in Z, with A tilting -110 to +20° and C turning 360°.
The round table is 19.6 in (500 mm) in diameter and rated for 770 lb (350 kg). Because the workpiece never travels in X or Y, that load does not have to be accelerated by the linear axes, and Sharp quotes rapids of 2,362 ipm on X and Y and 1,890 ipm on Z. Cutting feed runs up to the Z rapid rate.
Accuracy figures are an order tighter than on the C-frame models. Positioning and repeatability are both given as 0.00006 in (0.0015 mm), supported by HEIDENHAIN linear scales on X, Y and Z, which are standard. Rotary positioning is +/- 6 arc sec on A and +/- 5 arc sec on C, each with +/- 3 arc sec repeatability.
A built-in motor spindle with ceramic bearings turns 15,000 rpm at 20/25 hp (15/18.5 kW); torque is 118 Nm at 1500 rpm and 42 Nm at 5000 rpm. The taper is BBT dual contact. Tools are stored upright in what Sharp calls a wine-rack magazine behind the machine and are changed from under the spindle with no swing arm: 30 tools as standard and fixed pocket selection. This is a 28,050 lb machine that draws 45 kVA.

Strengths & Limitations
Strengths
- Positioning accuracy and repeatability of 0.00006 in (0.0015 mm) on the linear axes
- HEIDENHAIN linear scales on X/Y/Z and an encoder on A/C are standard accessories
- Rapid traverse of 2,362 ipm (60,000 mm/min) on X and Y
- 15,000 rpm built-in spindle rated 20/25 hp (15/18.5 kW)
- 770 lb (350 kg) on a 19.6 in (500 mm) trunnion table
- Spindle chiller, 70 Bar CTS prep and ball screw cooling brackets come standard
Limitations
- Tool selection is fixed, not random, and tools are limited to 2.99 in (76 mm) diameter beside occupied pockets
- A-axis tilt of -110 to +20° is narrower than the -120 to +30° of the SVX-300-F
- Needs 45 kVA and a floor space 169 in deep
- The coolant through spindle pump and a 440V transformer are optional

Frequently Asked Questions
01
Construction and accuracy. The SVX-500-F is a box-in-box machine with a fixed-position trunnion, HEIDENHAIN scales and 0.00006 in (0.0015 mm) positioning; the SVX-300-F is a C-frame machine listed at 0.0002 in (0.005 mm). The SVX-500-F also has a 15,000 rpm, 20/25 hp spindle and carries 770 lb (350 kg) against 330 lb (150 kg) on the SVX-300-F.
02
Sharp describes a wine-rack style system at the back of the machine. Tools sit vertically on a rotating stand and the change is made from behind and under the spindle, without a swing arm. Capacity is 30 tools; Sharp lists 40 tools in lieu of 30 as an option and mentions 60T as optional in its overview.
03
A tilts -110 to +20° and C rotates 360°. Positioning accuracy is +/- 6 arc sec on A and +/- 5 arc sec on C, with +/- 3 arc sec repeatability on each. The trunnion uses cam rollers, which Sharp describes as zero backlash, and a rotary encoder measures its rotation.
04
The table lists ISO 7/24 40 BBT Dual Contact, and Sharp's overview bullet calls it CAT 40 Big Plus. Confirm the retention knob and holder standard with Sharp before buying tooling. Maximum tool length is 11.8 in (300 mm) and maximum tool weight 15.4 lb (7 kg).
