Price estimate
We do not have a price for the AWEA LG-8050 that we can stand behind, so we show no number. Configuration, options and installation move the final price a long way: a quote is the reliable figure.
Overview
A CAT50 gear spindle over an 8,000 x 4,800 mm (315.0 x 189.0 in) fixed table: that is the AWEA LG-8050, the second length in the LG gantry range's 5,000 mm (196.9 in) Y group. X travel is 8,000 mm (315.0 in) and Z is 1,000 mm (39.4 in).
What the machine can cut is set by the spindle more than by the frame. The standard unit runs to 4,000 rpm through a 2-speed gear box, and AWEA quotes a maximum torque of 982 Nm at 253 rpm from the 26 kW ( 35 HP ) motor. That is a roughing spindle for steel and cast iron with large face mills. Shops that finish with smaller cutters can order a 5,000 / 6,000 rpm gear spindle, or a FANUC built-in spindle of 6,000 or 8,000 rpm for which the maker gives a maximum of 600 Nm at 350 rpm. The built-in option gives up low-speed torque for speed, so pick it by the material, not by the top figure.
Tools sit in a floor type magazine at the back of the machine: 32 as standard, 60 as an option. Each can be up to 350 mm (13.8 in) long and 20 kg (44 lb), and the diameter row reads Ø127 / 215 mm (Ø5.0 / 8.5 in). Rapids are 20 m/min (787 ipm) in X, 12 m/min (472 ipm) in Y and 10 m/min (394 ipm) in Z, with cutting feed of 1 ~ 10 m/min (39 ~ 394 ipm).
One detail sets this length apart. Its X-axis figures under the VDI standard, P = 0.040 mm and Ps = 0.030 mm, are the same as the Y/Z figures of the crossbeam. On the shorter LG-6050 the long axis is the more accurate of the two at P = 0.035 mm; on the LG-10050 it is the looser at P = 0.050 mm.

Strengths & Limitations
Strengths
- 4,000 rpm gear spindle with a maximum torque of 982 Nm at 253 rpm from a 26 kW ( 35 HP ) motor
- X positioning of P = 0.040 mm matches the Y/Z figure, so accuracy is even along and across the 8,000 x 4,800 mm (315.0 x 189.0 in) table
- Built-in spindles of 6,000 or 8,000 rpm and gear spindles of 5,000 / 6,000 rpm are offered for finishing work
- Floor type magazine for 32 tools (60 optional) of up to 20 kg (44 lb) each
- Roller type linear guide ways on Y and Z with a 20 m/min (787 ipm) X rapid
Limitations
- The standard spindle stops at 4,000 rpm, which is slow for small tools and aluminium
- Cutting feed tops out at 10 m/min (394 ipm) on every axis
- Tool length is limited to 350 mm (13.8 in); deep pockets need a milling head or extension head, which are options
- X repeatability of Ps = 0.030 mm, against Ps = 0.026 mm on the LG-6050

Frequently Asked Questions
01
AWEA gives the standard 4,000 rpm gear spindle a maximum torque output of 982 Nm at 253 rpm with the 26 kW ( 35 HP ) motor, through a 2-speed gear box. The optional built-in spindles, available at 6,000 rpm and 8,000 rpm, are quoted at a maximum of 600 Nm at 350 rpm. The spec table lists spindle power as 22 / 26 kW (30 / 35 HP).
02
The taper is CAT50 (7 / 24). The magazine holds 32 tools, with 60 as an option. Maximum tool length is 350 mm (13.8 in), maximum tool weight is 20 kg (44 lb), and the maximum tool diameter is listed as Ø127 / 215 mm (Ø5.0 / 8.5 in). AWEA describes a floating type hydraulic tool release that keeps pressure off the spindle bearing when a tool is released.
03
Rapid traverse is 20 m/min (787 ipm) in X, 12 m/min (472 ipm) in Y and 10 m/min (394 ipm) in Z. The cutting feed rate range is 1 ~ 10 m/min (39 ~ 394 ipm). The 4,000 mm Y models of the range, such as the LG-8040, have a Y rapid of 15 m/min (591 ipm).
04
On paper, yes. Under the VDI standard the X axis is listed at P = 0.040 mm with Ps = 0.030 mm, and the Y/Z row gives P = 0.040 mm over full travel with Ps = 0.030 mm. The JIS rows read ± 0.025 / Full Travel for positioning and ± 0.003 mm for repeatability.
05
All three share the 5,000 mm (196.9 in) Y travel, the 4,800 mm table width and the 1,900 liter coolant tank. The LG-6050 has 6,000 mm (236.2 in) of X and the LG-10050 has 10,000 mm (393.7 in). X positioning under the VDI standard widens with length: P = 0.035 mm on the LG-6050, P = 0.040 mm on the LG-8050 and P = 0.050 mm on the LG-10050.
