Overview
The Haas UMC-1250 is the largest trunnion-table 5-axis universal machining center in the Haas lineup, with 1,270 x 762 x 711 mm (50 x 30 x 28 in) of travel and a 762 mm (30 in) platter diameter. This machine fills the gap between mid-size 5-axis UMCs and the massive gantry-based VS and HDC platforms, handling workpieces up to 991 mm (39 in) swing that are too large for the UMC-1000 but do not require the multi-meter envelopes of the gantry machines.
The spindle is a 22.4 kW (30 hp) inline direct-drive unit running to 8,100 RPM with 122 Nm (90 ft-lbf) of torque at 2,000 RPM. The CT40/BT40/HSK-A63 taper options maintain compatibility with standard 40-taper tooling. Liquid cooling and air/oil injection bearing lubrication keep thermal drift minimal during extended production runs.
The trunnion is built heavier than any other UMC model. The B-axis tilts from +120 to -35 degrees with 3,037 Nm of continuous torque and 2,712 Nm brake torque. The C-axis provides full 360-degree rotation with 2,514 Nm continuous torque and 1,220 Nm brake torque. The 762 mm platter supports 454 kg (1,000 lb), or 226.8 kg (500 lb) with the optional pallet pool. Seven T-slots provide ample fixturing options for large workpieces.
The 30+1 SMTC posts 2.8-second tool-to-tool and 3.6-second chip-to-chip times. Rapids run at 22.9 m/min (900 ipm) on all axes. At 8,536 kg (18,820 lb), this is the heaviest UMC in the lineup, providing the mass needed to dampen vibration when cutting large parts at aggressive parameters. The machine requires 220 VAC at 70 amps. A 70+1 SMTC option is available for shops running complex programs. For shops machining medium-to-large 5-axis parts that fit within a 39-inch swing, the UMC-1250 is the most capable trunnion-table machine Haas offers. Strengths & Limitations
Strengths
- 50 x 30 x 28 inch travel and 39-inch part swing make this the largest trunnion-table 5-axis in the Haas catalog
- 30-inch platter with 1,000 lb capacity handles heavy workpieces and large 5-axis fixtures
- 3,037 Nm B-axis and 2,514 Nm C-axis trunnion torque provide rock-solid workholding during aggressive cuts
- 8,536 kg machine weight delivers excellent vibration dampening on large-part 5-axis operations
- 500 lb pallet pool option enables unattended production on heavier parts than any other Haas UMC pallet system
- 70+1 SMTC option available for complex programs with many tools
- Base price near $252K undercuts comparable-size 5-axis trunnion machines from DMG Mori and Hermle
Limitations
- 8,100 RPM spindle speed is the standard rate; no SS variant currently available for the 1250 platform
- 50 °/sec rotary axis speeds are the standard (non-SS) rate, adding repositioning time compared to the 1000SS
- 30 HP spindle may feel limiting on aggressive roughing in stainless and titanium on workpieces approaching 39-inch swing
- 18,820 lb machine weight requires reinforced flooring and significant rigging for installation

Frequently Asked Questions
01
Base price starts at around $251,995. With through-spindle coolant, probing, 70+1 SMTC, pallet pool, and production software, expect $300,000 to $330,000 for a fully configured machine.
02
The UMC-1250 has 1,270 x 762 x 711 mm of travel versus 1,016 x 635 x 635 mm on the UMC-1000. The platter increases from 625 mm to 762 mm, and part swing goes from 34 to 39 inches. Both share the 30 HP 8,100 RPM spindle. The 1250 weighs 8,536 kg versus approximately 7,711 kg for the 1000.
03
As of current Haas offerings, there is no SS variant of the UMC-1250. For higher spindle speed and faster axes in a large 5-axis envelope, the UMC-1000SS provides 12,000 RPM and 30.5 m/min rapids in a slightly smaller work area.
04
The standard platter holds 454 kg (1,000 lb). With the optional pallet pool, capacity drops to 226.8 kg (500 lb) per pallet. The 500 lb pallet pool capacity is the highest in the UMC lineup, making it the best choice for unattended production of heavier 5-axis parts.
05
Yes. The 30 HP spindle with 122 Nm of torque and the heavy trunnion with 3,037 Nm B-axis torque provide the power and rigidity for titanium cutting. The 8,536 kg machine weight helps dampen vibration during interrupted cuts in tough alloys.
