We do not have a price for the AWEA AF-650II that we can stand behind, so we show no number. Configuration, options and installation move the final price a long way: a quote is the reliable figure.
Overview
The AWEA AF-650II is the smallest machine in the AF-II line of vertical machining centers: 650 mm (25.6 in) of X travel, 510 mm (20.1 in) in both Y and Z, and a BT40 direct-drive spindle that runs to 12,000 rpm. The table measures 750 x 510 mm (29.5 x 20.1 in) and carries 500 kg (1,102 lb). At 4,200 kg (9,259 lb) it is also the lightest AF, which keeps rigging and floor questions simple.
Speed is what this size is about. X and Y rapids are 48 m/min (1,890 ipm) and Z is 32 m/min (1,260 ipm), the fastest pairing the AF-650II shares only with the AF-800II. AWEA lists positioning accuracy of 0.006 mm and repeatability of 0.005 mm under ISO230-2. The spindle motor is rated 11 / 15 kW (14.8 / 20.1 hp), continuous against short-time, the same rating every AF model carries, so the small frame gives up envelope rather than spindle.
The Y travel equals the table depth. A part that covers the table can be reached across its full width, but there is no spare stroke for a fixture that hangs past the edge. With 100 ~ 610 mm (3.9 ~ 24.0 in) between spindle nose and table, a vise plus a tall part and a long tool has to be checked against the 250 mm (9.8 in) tool length limit.
AWEA describes a delta-shaped wide-span column, hand-scraped contact surfaces between column and bed, roller type linear guide ways and FANUC αi servo motors coupled directly to dual-nut ball screws. The control is the FANUC Oi - MF PLUS. A 24-tool arm type changer is fitted, and tools can be Ø75 mm in a full magazine. Chip augers are standard, while the high pressure coolant flush system is an option.

Strengths & Limitations
Strengths
- Direct-drive 12,000 rpm BT40 spindle rated 11 / 15 kW (14.8 / 20.1 hp), the same motor rating as the largest AF models
- Rapids of 48 m/min (1,890 ipm) in X and Y and 32 m/min (1,260 ipm) in Z suit short-cycle work with many positioning moves
- Positioning accuracy of 0.006 mm and repeatability of 0.005 mm under ISO230-2
- Compact and light for a 40-taper machine at 4,200 kg (9,259 lb), with a 25 kVA power requirement
- FANUC Oi - MF PLUS control with FANUC αi absolute servo motors on all three axes
Limitations
- X travel stops at 650 mm (25.6 in); the AF-800II reaches 800 mm (31.5 in) on the same Y and Z
- Table load is 500 kg (1,102 lb), so a rotary table and its fixture use up much of the rating
- Tools are limited to 7 kg (15 lb) and 250 mm (9.8 in) in length, and to Ø75 mm unless the adjacent pockets are empty
- The table lists no BT50 option for this size, unlike the AF-1060II and larger models

Frequently Asked Questions
01
X travel is 650 mm (25.6 in), Y is 510 mm (20.1 in) and Z is 510 mm (20.1 in). The table is 750 x 510 mm (29.5 x 20.1 in) with four 14 mm T-slots on a 100 mm pitch, and it is rated for 500 kg (1,102 lb). Spindle nose to table distance runs from 100 to 610 mm (3.9 ~ 24.0 in).
02
A BT40 direct-drive spindle with a maximum of 12,000 rpm and a motor rated 11 / 15 kW (14.8 / 20.1 hp), continuous and 30 min. AWEA says the direct-drive layout keeps motor heat away from the spindle to reduce deformation, and that a floating hydraulic tool release takes the unclamping pressure off the spindle bearings.
03
Only in length. The AF-800II has 800 mm (31.5 in) of X travel and an 860 x 510 mm (33.9 x 20.1 in) table, and weighs 5,000 kg (11,023 lb) against 4,200 kg (9,259 lb) for the AF-650II. Y and Z travel, table load, spindle, rapids and tool changer are the same on both, so the choice comes down to part length and floor space.
04
The arm type changer holds 24 tools. Each tool can be up to 250 mm (9.8 in) long and 7 kg (15 lb). The maximum diameter is Ø75 mm with every pocket full and Ø150 mm when the adjacent pockets are left empty. AWEA notes that tool specifications may vary with the size of the tool magazine.
05
AWEA lists a power requirement of 25 kVA and a pneumatic pressure requirement of 6 kg/cm². The coolant tank holds 270 liter, and AWEA describes it as an independent tank that is easy to reach for maintenance. Machine weight is 4,200 kg (9,259 lb).
