Overview
The Haas ST-10 is the entry point into the Haas ST turning center lineup. With a 165 mm (6.5 in) chuck, 44.5 mm (1.75 in) bar capacity, and a footprint small enough to fit into the tightest shop corners, the ST-10 punches above its weight class for a compact turning center priced in the mid-$40K range.
The A2-5 spindle puts out 11.2 kW (15 hp) and 102 Nm (75 ft-lb) of torque at 1,300 RPM, topping out at 6,000 RPM. That speed range makes it well-suited for aluminum, brass, mild steel, and stainless work on parts up to 305 mm (12 in) diameter by 305 mm (12 in) length. The 58.7 mm (2.31 in) spindle bore handles through-spindle work within the bar capacity range.
Axis travels are 200 mm (7.9 in) in X and 406 mm (16 in) in Z, with rapid traverse hitting 30.5 m/min (1,200 ipm) on both axes. Those rapids are fast for a machine this size and keep non-cutting time tight on production runs. The 12-station bolt-on turret (BOT) accepts any combination of OD and ID tools, with a hybrid turret option available for shops wanting live tooling capability without stepping up to the ST-10Y.
The Haas NGC control is the same system running across every Haas mill and lathe on the planet. Shops already running Haas equipment get zero learning curve. Conversational programming, rigid tapping, and canned turning cycles are standard. The 114 L (30 gal) coolant tank is adequate for the machine's cutting capacity.
At a base price around $45,000, the ST-10 is one of the most affordable production-capable CNC lathes from a major manufacturer. It competes with the Okuma GENOS L2000-e and Mazak QT-200 at a significantly lower price point. Shops adding their first CNC lathe, replacing manual machines, or needing a dedicated second-op turning cell consistently look at the ST-10 first. The HFO service network provides same-day parts availability on wear items across most of North America. Specs sourced from Haas Automation published data.

Strengths & Limitations
Strengths
- Base price around $45K makes it one of the most affordable production CNC lathes from a tier-one manufacturer
- 6,000 RPM spindle speed is the highest in the Haas ST lineup, delivering strong surface speeds for small-diameter aluminum and brass work
- 30.5 m/min rapids on both axes keep non-cutting time tight, matching machines costing twice as much
- Compact footprint fits into small shops, second-op cells, and educational labs without dominating floor space
- Same NGC control as every Haas mill and lathe, providing zero learning curve for existing Haas shops
- Hybrid turret option adds live tooling capability without stepping up to the more expensive ST-10Y
Limitations
- 1.75-inch bar capacity limits the machine to small-diameter bar work; shops running 2-inch+ stock need the ST-15 or ST-20
- 15 hp spindle is adequate for general turning but underpowered for heavy roughing in stainless, Inconel, or titanium
- No Y-axis option on the base ST-10 means off-center milling features require the ST-10Y at a higher price
- 30-gallon coolant tank is small for extended production runs with high-pressure coolant demands
- 12-station BOT turret lacks the rigidity of BMT tooling found on higher-end competitors at this price class

Frequently Asked Questions
01
Base price starts around $45,000. Common options like tailstock, chip conveyor, tool probe, parts catcher, and bar feeder interface push the configured price to $55,000-$75,000. Used ST-10 machines from 2018-2023 sell in the $28,000-$55,000 range depending on hours, condition, and included options.
02
The ST-10Y adds a Y-axis with plus or minus 51 mm of travel, C-axis, and BMT45 live tooling capability. The base ST-10 is a 2-axis turning-only machine with a bolt-on turret. The Y-axis option adds roughly $20,000-$25,000 to the price but enables cross-drilling, flat milling, and tapping without a second setup. If any parts need off-center features, the ST-10Y pays for itself quickly.
03
The Okuma offers better thermal stability, tighter tolerances out of the box, and a more rigid casting. But it costs $20,000-$30,000 more. The ST-10 delivers solid turning capability at a dramatically lower price point. For shops not chasing micron-level tolerances in hardened materials, the Haas is the better value.
04
Yes, the 15 hp spindle and 102 Nm of torque handle 304 and 316 stainless at moderate depths of cut. Expect to back off feeds compared to aluminum or mild steel. For aggressive roughing in duplex stainless or Inconel, the ST-20 or ST-25 with more spindle power is the better choice.
05
The Haas Servo Bar 300 is the factory option and integrates directly with the NGC control. Third-party feeders from LNS, Iemca, and FMB are all compatible. The 44.5 mm (1.75 in) bar capacity limits you to bar stock under that diameter, so make sure your feeders capacity matches.
