Overview

The Mazak MULTIPLEX W-300 is the larger twin-spindle, twin-turret CNC turning center in the MULTIPLEX W family, stepping up to 10-inch chucks for shops running bigger production parts. With 430 mm (16.93 in) max machining diameter and 225 mm (8.86 in) of turning length, it handles workpieces that exceed the W-200's 8-inch chuck capacity.

Each of the two symmetrical spindles runs at up to 5,000 RPM with 18.5 kW (25 hp) through built-in motor design. Each turret carries 12 tool positions with live tooling. The symmetrical layout means both spindle/turret units are mechanically identical, enabling independent or synchronized operation.

The W-300 is available in base (no Y-axis) and W-300Y (with 150 mm / 6 in Y-axis travel on both turrets) configurations. The Y-axis variant adds off-center milling, drilling, and tapping capability. The 150 mm Y-axis travel is 50% more than the W-200Y's 100 mm, providing greater reach for off-center features on the larger workpieces.

MAZATROL SmoothG handles dual-spindle, dual-turret coordination and synchronization. Automatic workpiece transfer between spindles enables rough-on-one, finish-on-the-other workflows. Bar capacity 80 mm (3.15 in). Machine weight approximately 8,500 kg (18,739 lb). New machines $280,000-$380,000. Competes with Nakamura-Tome WT-300 and Okuma TWIN STAR LB3000 in the 10-inch twin-spindle class.

Strengths & Limitations

Strengths

  • 10-inch chucks handle larger production parts that exceed the W-200's 8-inch capacity
  • Twin-spindle, twin-turret architecture doubles throughput on 10-inch class production work
  • W-300Y variant with 150 mm Y-axis provides 50% more off-center reach than the W-200Y
  • 80 mm bar capacity handles larger bar stock for production bar feeding applications
  • Each spindle independently delivers 18.5 kW at 5,000 RPM for full turning performance
  • Replaces two 10-inch lathes using less floor space with one operator

Limitations

  • $280K-$380K is significant investment for twin-spindle production turning
  • 225 mm turning length restricts to short chucking work; longer parts need a different platform
  • Base W-300 without Y-axis limits milling to on-center operations only
  • Programming dual-spindle synchronized operations requires experienced CNC programmers
  • If one spindle requires service, both sides may be affected

Frequently Asked Questions

01 W-300 cost?

Base W-300 starts around $280,000. W-300Y with Y-axis and full options runs $340K-$380K.

02 W-300 vs W-300Y?

The W-300Y adds 150 mm (6 in) of Y-axis travel on both turrets for off-center milling and drilling. Premium is approximately $40K-$60K. Worth it if parts have any off-center features.

03 W-300 vs W-200?

W-300 has 10-inch chucks (vs 8-inch), 16.93 inch max diameter (vs 12.6), 8.86 inch turning length (vs 7.09), and 80 mm bar capacity (vs 65 mm). Choose based on part size requirements.

04 What automation options?

Bar feeders for stock up to 80 mm, GL-series gantry loaders for chuck work, and part catchers. The GL-150 gantry handles the heavier parts in the 10-inch class. Pairs with SmoothG for coordinated loading cycles.
