Overview
The You Ji YH50 is the largest of the YH horizontal turning lathes in the catalogue: an 18 in (457 mm) chuck, Ø114 mm (4.5 in) of bar capacity and turning lengths of 1,500/2,000/3,000/4,000 mm (59.1/78.7/118.1/157.5 in).
It is a shaft machine first. No bed shorter than 1,500 mm is listed, and the longest reaches the top of the range the maker quotes for the YH series. Maximum turning diameter is Ø680 mm (26.8 in), swing Ø800 mm (31.5 in).
The spindle uses an A2-11 nose and a 37/45 kW (49.6/60.3 hp) motor, as the YH36 does, but the speed range is lower at 1-1,500 rpm and the through-hole is larger. A Ø114 mm (4.5 in) bore takes oil-country pipe and thick-walled tube through the spindle, which is why a lathe of this type is common in pipe-threading and coupling work as well as in general shaft turning.
