Price estimate
We do not have a price for the Vollmer CHP 840 / CHP 1300 that we can stand behind, so we show no number. Configuration, options and installation move the final price a long way: a quote is the reliable figure.
Overview
The Vollmer CHP 840 / CHP 1300 sharpens tooth faces and tooth tops on carbide-tipped circular saw blades and, unlike its plainer sibling, is equipped for metal-cutting blades as well. Hook angle reaches from -30° to +40°. The software for negative tooth face geometries and chip breaker machining is standard.
Metal saws ask more of a sharpener. The tooth face is negative, it often carries a chip breaker, and the carbide grade is tougher to grind. Vollmer fits this machine with the 1.1 kW (1.5 hp) grinding drive and variable wheel speed as standard, where the CHC 840 / CHC 1300 has 0.7 kW (0.9 hp) and offers the larger motor as an option. A bevel of up to 15° can be ground on the negative tooth face. An adjustable grinding barrel handles chip breakers, and Vollmer shows chip breaker machining on HSS saws with a 50 mm grinding wheel.
None of that takes away the wood and aluminium capability. Clearance angle is +5° to 45°, the top bevel goes to 45°, and hollow faces can be ground from -10° to +30° with the optional device. Four CNC axes (B1, Z1, X1, V1) cover the commonly used geometries in one cycle, group toothing included.
As the name says, there are two frames. The CHP 840 accepts 80 to 840 mm (3.1 to 33.1 in) blades up to 30 kg (66 lb), and the CHP 1300 accepts 80 to 1,300 mm (3.1 to 51.2 in) up to 80 kg (176 lb). Blade thickness is limited to 8 mm (0.31 in) on both. Weights are approx. 1,660 kg (3,660 lb) and approx. 1,850 kg (4,078 lb), with a connected load of approx. 2.2 kVA.

Strengths & Limitations
Strengths
- Hook angle range of -30° to +40° covers negative metal-cutting teeth and positive wood teeth
- 1.1 kW (1.5 hp) grinding drive with variable wheel speed is the standard fit
- Software for negative tooth face geometries and chip breaker machining is standard
- Negative tooth faces can be bevelled up to 15°
- Same compact enclosure and 10-inch LCD control concept in both diameter ranges
Limitations
- Blade thickness is limited to 8 mm (0.31 in), well short of the 15 mm (0.59 in) the CM 200 accepts
- Hollow face grinding and the second feed pawl for pitches to 180 mm (7.1 in) are options
- Face and top are ground in separate set-ups; the CHX 840 / CHX 1300 does both in one
- The 840 frame limits workpiece weight to 30 kg (66 lb)

Frequently Asked Questions
01
In what it can do on metal-cutting saws. The CHP's hook angle starts at -30° where the CHC 840 / CHC 1300 starts at -10°. The CHP adds a bevel of up to 15° on the negative tooth face, and it has the 1.1 kW (1.5 hp) drive with variable speed as standard. Diameter ranges, weights and connected load match.
02
Yes. Vollmer lists software for negative tooth face geometries and chip breaker machining as standard on this machine, together with an adjustable grinding barrel for chip breaker work. The brochure shows chip breaker machining with a 125 mm grinding wheel and, on HSS saws, with a 50 mm grinding wheel. Saws with a chip guiding notch are an optional application.
03
On the CHP 840, blades from 80 to 840 mm (3.1 to 33.1 in) weighing up to 30 kg (66 lb). On the CHP 1300, blades from 80 to 1,300 mm (3.1 to 51.2 in) weighing up to 80 kg (176 lb). Bore diameter starts from 10 mm (0.39 in), thickness is up to 8 mm (0.31 in) and cutting width up to 12 mm (0.47 in).
04
Up to 20 mm (0.79 in) on the hook angle side of the tooth, up to 24 mm (0.94 in) on the clearance angle and up to 15 mm (0.59 in) for a hollow face. The wheel is 125 mm (4.9 in) in outside diameter on a 32 mm (1.3 in) bore, and its peripheral speed is variable.
