Overview

The Victor Taichung VMT-X200 is a multi-tasking turn-mill with its own milling spindle and tool magazine: Ø500 mm (Ø19.68 in) maximum turning diameter, 1,075 mm (42.32 in) turning length, a 4,200 rpm main spindle on an A2-6 nose with an 8 in chuck, and a 12,000 rpm HSK-T63 milling spindle fed from a 40-tool magazine. It is the smallest of the four VMT-X machines.

Victor Taichung prints two columns for it, Single SP and Double SP. The Double SP adds a sub-spindle that mirrors the main one: 4,200 rpm, A2-6 nose, Ø52 mm (Ø2.04 in) bar capacity. Matched spindles are useful here, because a bar-fed part can be handed over and finished on its back face at the same speed and through the same bore. On this model the table shows the M.T. #5 tailstock quill and the 12,000 kg (26,455.43 lb) weight in both columns.

The milling spindle is rated 15 / 18.5 / 22 kW (20 / 25 / 30 HP), and the maker gives a Y-axis travel of 260 mm (10.2 in). That is the point of this class of machine. Flats, pockets and cross holes are cut by a real milling spindle with tool changes from the magazine, in the same set-up as the turning. Turning power for this model is given as 15 kW.

A Fanuc 0i-TF Plus control with a 15 in screen is standard and a Siemens control is on the option list, along with the sub-spindle, a steady rest, a bar feeder interface and a part catcher. The tool presetter for the milling spindle and the digital tailstock are listed as standard.

Strengths & Limitations

Strengths

  • 12,000 rpm HSK-T63 milling spindle rated 15 / 18.5 / 22 kW (20 / 25 / 30 HP), with a 40-tool magazine
  • Double SP sub-spindle matches the main spindle: 4,200 rpm, A2-6 nose and Ø52 mm (Ø2.04 in) bar capacity
  • Y-axis travel of 260 mm (10.2 in) for off-centre milling and drilling in the turning set-up
  • Automatic tool presetter for the milling spindle and a digital tailstock are on the standard list
  • Turning length of 1,075 mm (42.32 in) on a Ø500 mm (Ø19.68 in) turning diameter

Limitations

  • Bar work is limited to Ø52 mm (Ø2.04 in) through either spindle
  • The sub-spindle is an option, so a Single SP machine cannot finish the back of a part without a second set-up
  • Turning power is given as 15 kW, the lowest of the VMT-X range
  • At 12,000 kg (26,455.43 lb) it needs a planned foundation and rigging
06

Best For

Shaft and flange parts up to Ø500 mm (Ø19.68 in) that need milling as well as turning Bar-fed parts up to Ø52 mm (Ø2.04 in) finished on both ends on the Double SP Parts with off-centre features inside 260 mm (10.2 in) of Y travel Jobs that need many milling tools, up to the 40-tool magazine

Frequently Asked Questions

01 What is the difference between the VMT-X200 Single SP and Double SP?

The Double SP has a sub-spindle and the Single SP does not. The sub-spindle is listed at 4,200 rpm on an A2-6 nose with an 8 in chuck and Ø52 mm (Ø2.04 in) bar capacity, the same figures as the main spindle. Capacity, milling spindle, magazine and the 12,000 kg (26,455.43 lb) weight are the same in both columns.

02 What milling spindle does the VMT-X200 have?

A 12,000 rpm spindle with an HSK-T63 tool interface, rated 15 / 18.5 / 22 kW (20 / 25 / 30 HP). It takes its tools from a 40-tool magazine, and the maker gives 260 mm (10.2 in) of Y-axis travel for it.

03 How large a part can the VMT-X200 turn?

The maximum turning diameter is Ø500 mm (Ø19.68 in) and the maximum turning length is 1,075 mm (42.32 in). Swing over the bed is Ø660 mm (Ø25.98 in). Bar stock passes through the spindle up to Ø52 mm (Ø2.04 in).

04 Which control does the VMT-X200 use?

The standard list names a Fanuc 0i-TF Plus control with a 15 in screen. A Siemens control with a 19 in screen is listed as an option. Confirm with the maker which functions for simultaneous milling come with each.
