Overview
The DMG Mori NTX 3000 is the largest machine in the NTX turn-mill lineup, extending the platform to handle workpieces up to 830 mm (32.7 in) diameter and 1,538 mm (60.6 in) turning length. It is the go-to NTX for shops that need to machine large, heavy components with full 5-axis turn-mill capability on the Fanuc-controlled Japanese-engineered platform.
The main spindle delivers 37 kW (50 hp) at 3,500 RPM with 700 Nm of torque through a 15-inch chuck. The sub-spindle provides 30 kW (40 hp) at 4,000 RPM. Bar capacity is 102 mm (4 in). The compactMASTER turn-mill spindle runs at 12,000 RPM with 18.5 kW (25 hp) through a Capto C6 interface (HSK-A63 optional), with a 20,000 RPM high-speed option.
The B-axis swivels through 240 degrees (plus/minus 120 degrees) via Direct Drive Motor. Axis travels are 795 mm (31.3 in) in X, 300 mm (11.8 in) in Y (plus/minus 150 mm), and 1,610 mm (63.4 in) in Z. Rapids hit 40 m/min on all main axes. The standard tool magazine holds 38 stations, expandable to 76. An optional lower turret with 10 live tool stations adds parallel processing.
The 3rd Generation update brings CELOS X, improved thermal displacement control, and 400V turning spindle. Control is Fanuc 31iB5 (Siemens CELOS optional on 3rd Gen). The machine weighs approximately 20,000 kg (44,092 lb) and requires about 4,780 x 3,180 mm of floor space. Pricing starts around $600,000 with production configs running $700,000-$900,000.

Strengths & Limitations
Strengths
- 830 mm turning diameter is the largest in the NTX lineup, handling big flanges, large valve bodies, and heavy components that smaller NTX machines cannot accommodate
- 37 kW main spindle with 700 Nm torque provides substantial cutting power for heavy roughing in tough steels and superalloys
- 102 mm (4 in) bar capacity matches the CTX beta 1250 TC, covering the full range of production bar stock sizes
- 15-inch chuck and dual spindles (37 kW main / 30 kW sub) enable heavy-duty done-in-one processing on large parts
- Full NTX 5-axis turn-mill capability with compactMASTER B-axis spindle on a platform large enough for energy and defense components
- 38-to-76 tool magazine with optional lower turret supports complex, long-running production jobs
- 3rd Generation brings CELOS X and improved thermal control for better accuracy on extended machining cycles
Limitations
- Starting at $600K, this is premium pricing for an NTX; shops should evaluate whether the CTX gamma series offers better value for large parts
- At 20,000 kg, foundation and rigging requirements are substantial, adding $15,000-$30,000 to installed cost
- 3,500 RPM main spindle speed limits high-speed small-diameter turning; the high torque bias favors heavy cuts
- 4,780 x 3,180 mm floor space requirement is significant, especially compared to the NTX 2000 at 4,080 x 2,980 mm
- Programming complexity increases with part size and feature count; budget for experienced operators and CAM investment

Frequently Asked Questions
01
A new NTX 3000 starts around $600,000. Adding the 20,000 RPM milling spindle, lower turret, expanded 76-tool magazine, high-pressure coolant, and automation pushes to $700,000-$900,000.
02
The NTX 3000 has a larger turning diameter (830 mm vs 700 mm), more powerful main spindle (37 kW / 700 Nm vs 30 kW / 478 Nm), larger bar capacity (102 mm vs 80 mm), and 15-inch chuck (vs 12-inch). Both share the same turning length and milling spindle.
03
The CTX gamma 1250 TC has a mineral-cast bed, more powerful main spindle (44 kW / 1,260 Nm), wider Y-axis (320 mm vs 300 mm), and runs Siemens exclusively. The NTX 3000 has a larger turning diameter (830 mm vs 700 mm) and uses Fanuc (Siemens optional on 3rd Gen). The CTX gamma is the premium choice for accuracy; the NTX 3000 covers bigger parts.
04
Most NTX 3000s run Fanuc 31iB5 with MAPPS. The 3rd Generation models offer Siemens-based CELOS X as an alternative.
