Overview
The Trumpf TruLaser 5030 fiber is the workhorse of Trumpf's 2D laser cutting lineup, and it's earned that reputation across thousands of fab shops worldwide. It's a flatbed fiber laser with a 3000 x 1500 mm (118 x 59 in) working area -- the standard 5 x 10 ft sheet size that most North American and European shops run daily.
What sets the TruLaser 5030 apart from competitors like the Amada ENSIS or Bystronic ByStar Fiber is Trumpf's BrightLine fiber technology. This is a combination of adaptive optics, flow-optimized nozzles, and beam shaping that lets a single machine cut thin gauge at blistering speeds and still produce clean edges on 25 mm (1 in) plate. Without BrightLine, most fiber lasers struggle with thick-section edge quality compared to CO2, but Trumpf's approach closes that gap entirely.
The machine ships with laser power options from 6 kW all the way up to 24 kW via Trumpf's TruDisk solid-state laser source. The 24 kW TruDisk 24001, introduced in 2022, can process mild steel up to 60 mm (2.36 in) thick with the optional thick-sheet package and pushes table throughput up to 80% higher than previous generations. Simultaneous positioning speed tops out at 280 m/min (918 ft/min), which keeps non-cutting time low during complex nesting runs.
The Siemens Sinumerik 840D SL control handles motion, while Trumpf's TruTops Boost CAD/CAM software manages nesting, programming, and job scheduling. Smart Beam Control continuously monitors focal position and adjusts in real time, which means consistent cut quality even through long unattended shifts. The automatic pallet changer keeps throughput high, and Trumpf offers full automation packages with LiftMaster loading/unloading systems.
At roughly 11,700 kg (25,794 lb) for the base machine and a footprint of 9229 x 6145 mm (363 x 242 in), it's a serious piece of floor space. But for shops cutting mixed materials and thicknesses on a daily basis, the TruLaser 5030 delivers the combination of speed, edge quality, and automation that justifies the investment. Strengths & Limitations
Strengths
- BrightLine fiber technology delivers thick-section edge quality that rivals CO2 lasers, closing the gap that held back early fiber machines on plate work
- Laser power options from 6 kW to 24 kW let shops spec the machine to their material mix without changing platforms
- 280 m/min simultaneous speed and automatic pallet changer keep non-productive time low during complex nesting jobs
- Smart Beam Control continuously monitors and adjusts focal position, maintaining cut quality through long unattended shifts
- Cuts copper and brass up to 16 mm -- a significant advantage over CO2 lasers that can't handle reflective metals reliably
- TruTops Boost integrates nesting, programming, and job scheduling in one package, reducing the CAM software stack
- Trumpf's global service network and parts availability is among the best in the laser cutting industry
Limitations
- New machine pricing starts well above $500K and can exceed $1M with high-power laser and full automation -- this is a premium investment
- 9.2 x 6.1 m footprint demands significant floor space, especially with automation add-ons like LiftMaster
- Trumpf's proprietary TruDisk laser source means you're locked into their service ecosystem for resonator maintenance
- TruTops software licensing adds ongoing cost and some shops find the learning curve steeper than standalone CAM packages
- 3000 x 1500 mm working area is the standard 5x10 sheet -- shops needing 6x12 or larger must step up to the TruLaser 5040 or 5060

Frequently Asked Questions
01
Trumpf doesn't publish pricing publicly. New TruLaser 5030 fiber machines typically start above $500,000 for a base 6 kW configuration and can exceed $1 million with 24 kW power and full automation (LiftMaster, SortMaster). Used units from 2014-2018 trade in the $150,000-$550,000 range depending on laser power, hours, and condition. Contact your local Trumpf dealer for a current quote.
02
The number after 50 refers to the working area size. The 5030 handles 3000 x 1500 mm (5x10 ft) sheets, the 5040 handles 4000 x 2000 mm (6.5x13 ft), and the 5060 handles 6000 x 2000 mm (8x13 ft). All three share the same laser source options, BrightLine technology, and control system. Pick based on your sheet size requirements.
03
BrightLine fiber is Trumpf's proprietary combination of adaptive optics, special nozzle geometry, and beam shaping that optimizes the fiber laser beam for both thin and thick materials. Without it, fiber lasers produce rougher edges on thick plate compared to CO2. With BrightLine, the TruLaser 5030 cuts 25 mm stainless with clean, dross-free edges that often don't need secondary finishing.
04
Yes. The fiber laser wavelength (1.03 um) is absorbed much better by reflective metals than CO2 laser wavelength (10.6 um). The TruLaser 5030 with 6 kW cuts copper up to 10 mm and brass up to 10 mm. With 12 kW, those numbers go up to 16 mm copper and 12.7 mm brass. This is a major advantage over CO2 machines.
05
The fiber laser is significantly faster on thin materials (up to 3x faster on gauge sheet), uses less energy (11-27 kW average draw vs 40-60 kW for CO2), and cuts reflective metals that CO2 can't touch. With BrightLine, thick-section quality matches or exceeds CO2. The only area where CO2 still has an edge is cutting very thick acrylic and some non-metal materials.
06
Trumpf offers a full range: automatic pallet changer (standard), LiftMaster for automated sheet loading/unloading, SortMaster for automated part sorting, and full integration with Trumpf's smart factory ecosystem. The machine can run lights-out with proper automation, and the TruTops Boost software handles job scheduling across multiple machines.
