Overview

The Tongtai CT-350 is a compact five-axis machining center built around a Ø350 mm (Ø13.8 in) table that carries up to 200 kg (441 lb). Linear travels are 400 mm (15.7 in) in X and 510 mm (20.1 in) in both Y and Z. The A axis is listed at +30 ~ -120° and the C axis at ±360°, so the tilt runs well past a right angle in one direction and a tool can reach undercut faces without a second setup.

The spindle takes 7/24 taper No. 40 tooling with BBT dual-contact as standard. It runs to 15,000 rpm, with 20,000 rpm as an option, and power is listed as 15/11/7.5 kW (20.1/14.8/10.1 hp). That is a light motor for a 40-taper spindle. The HTT-500, a larger five-axis machine from the same maker, lists 37/18.5 kW (49.6/24.8 hp) with the Fanuc control at the same 15,000 rpm. The CT-350 is laid out for finishing passes and small cutters at high speed, not for heavy stock removal.

Rapid traverse is 36 / 36 / 30 m/min (1,417 / 1,417 / 1,181 ipm) in X, Y and Z. The rotary axes are listed at 33.3 rpm for A and 40 rpm for C. The magazine holds 24 tools as standard, with 30 or 40 as options, and each tool may weigh up to 7 kg (15 lb).

Control choice decides what the machine can do. Tongtai lists the Fanuc 0i-MF Plus and Fanuc 31i-B Plus as 4+1 axis, and the Siemens ONE and Heidenhain TNC 7 as full 5-axis. A shop that needs simultaneous contouring has to order one of the latter two, while positional work on five faces is covered by all four.

The machine measures 2,150 x 3,104 x 3,121 mm (84.6 x 122.2 x 122.9 in) in width, depth and height and weighs 7,000 kg (15,432 lb). Check the height against door and ceiling clearance before the machine arrives.

Strengths & Limitations

Strengths

  • BBT dual-contact 7/24 taper No. 40 spindle is standard, at 15,000 rpm with a 20,000 rpm option
  • A-axis range of +30 ~ -120° with ±360° on C lets the tool reach past the vertical on one side of the part
  • Full 5-axis control is listed with the Siemens ONE or Heidenhain TNC 7
  • At 7,000 kg (15,432 lb) it weighs less than half as much as the 15,000 kg (33,069 lb) HTT-500
  • Magazine can be ordered with 30 or 40 tools in place of the standard 24

Limitations

  • Spindle power is 15/11/7.5 kW (20.1/14.8/10.1 hp), so heavy roughing in steel is outside its range
  • Table load stops at 200 kg (441 lb) on a Ø350 mm (Ø13.8 in) table, fixture included
  • The Fanuc 0i-MF Plus and Fanuc 31i-B Plus versions are listed as 4+1 axis, not full 5-axis
  • Tools are limited to 7 kg (15 lb), and X travel is only 400 mm (15.7 in)
06

Best For

Small five-axis parts that fit a Ø350 mm (Ø13.8 in) table and stay under 200 kg (441 lb) with the fixture High-speed finishing with small tools at 15,000 rpm, or 20,000 rpm with the optional spindle Five-face positional machining on the 4+1 axis Fanuc versions Simultaneous five-axis contouring with the Siemens ONE or Heidenhain TNC 7

Frequently Asked Questions

01 Is the CT-350 a full simultaneous 5-axis machine?

That depends on the control. Tongtai lists the Siemens ONE and Heidenhain TNC 7 versions as full 5-axis. The Fanuc 0i-MF Plus and Fanuc 31i-B Plus versions are listed as 4+1 axis, which covers positional machining on tilted faces but not full simultaneous contouring. Decide which kind of work you have before choosing the control.

02 What size of part fits on the CT-350?

The table is Ø350 mm (Ø13.8 in) and carries 200 kg (441 lb), fixture included. Travels are 400 mm (15.7 in) in X and 510 mm (20.1 in) in Y and Z. Because the A axis tilts from +30 to -120°, the part and its fixture also have to clear the spindle and the machine interior through that swing, so the usable part size is smaller than the travels alone suggest.

03 What spindle does the CT-350 have?

A 7/24 taper No. 40 spindle with BBT dual-contact as standard. Maximum speed is 15,000 rpm, and a 20,000 rpm spindle is listed as an option. Power is given as 15/11/7.5 kW (20.1/14.8/10.1 hp). The table does not state a torque figure.

04 How many tools does the CT-350 hold?

The standard magazine holds 24 tools. Magazines of 30 and 40 tools are listed as options. Maximum tool weight is 7 kg (15 lb), which suits end mills, drills and small face mills more than large-diameter cutters.

05 How much room does the CT-350 need?

The machine is listed at 2,150 x 3,104 x 3,121 mm (84.6 x 122.2 x 122.9 in), width by depth by height, and weighs 7,000 kg (15,432 lb). Add clearance around those figures for doors, service access and chip handling, and check the 3,121 mm height against the route into the building.
