Tajmac-ZPS MORI-SAY TMZ867CNC

For bar of 67 mm (2.6 in) and above, Tajmac-ZPS builds the MORI-SAY TMZ867CNC: eight spindles, each with a motor of 20 kW nominal and 30 kW maximum, in a machine that weighs 17,000 kg before its electrical cabinet. It is the heavy end of the maker's CNC multi-spindle range, and the figures read more like eight small lathes on one drum than like a typical bar automatic.

Capacity depends on how the bar is loaded. From a stock reel the limit is 67 mm. An automatic bar loader raises it to 73 mm without a turned bar end, and to 77 mm with one. Feed length is 200 mm. The spindles turn at up to 2,500 rpm and deliver a nominal 191 Nm at 1,000 rpm. Total spindle power is 160 kW nominal and 240 kW maximum, a number to take to whoever plans your electrical supply.

The slides match the spindles. Eight frontal slides push with 10,000 N over 340 mm of travel. Seven compound slides have 3,700 N on both the axial and the radial axis, with 120 mm and 80 mm of travel. The cut-off slide has 2,900 N over 70 mm.

More is standard here than on the smaller TMZ machines. The standard version includes a 3-station back working slide on X8 and Y8 with 95 mm and 110 mm of travel, a Y axis in stations 5 and 6, and a pick-up spindle with CNC controlled speed. Live tools remain optional: 8 drives, up to 12,000 rpm, with a maximum torque of 22 Nm at 2,250 rpm. The maker also notes that with special accessories the machine can make two different simple parts, working as two four-spindle machines.

Two SINUMERIK 840D solution line controls and TMis software handle 32 CNC controlled axes, with 30 more available for optional equipment. Quick-change tooling is CAPTO C3, C4 or KENNAMETAL K32, K40.
