Overview
The Index G200 is a 6-spindle CNC multi-spindle turning machine designed for high-volume production of complex turned parts up to 32mm diameter, combining the production rate of a multi-spindle machine with the programming flexibility of a CNC turning center. Each of the 6 spindle positions has independent CNC control with up to 4 axes per position, enabling simultaneous turning, milling, drilling, and back-working operations at every spindle station. Index's proprietary iXpanel control provides conversational programming and simulation for easy job setup without traditional cam design. The G200 handles both bar stock (up to 32mm diameter) and chucking work, and the optional back-working spindle enables complete machining of complex parts including off-center features. Typical applications include automotive hydraulic components, precision fasteners, and medical turned parts where the G200 replaces 3-4 individual CNC turning centers.

Strengths & Limitations
Strengths
- 6 spindles with full CNC per position for complex part geometry
- No cam design required — full CNC programming reduces changeover
- Up to 4 axes per position for simultaneous multi-operation cycles
- Back-working spindle standard for complete part machining
- Index iXpanel with conversational programming for operator-friendly setup
Limitations
- Very high capital cost vs single-spindle turning centers
- Requires skilled setup technician familiar with multi-spindle programming
- Overkill for low-volume or highly variable production
- 32mm bar limit restricts larger diameter shaft work

Frequently Asked Questions
01
Production rate depends on part complexity. For simple parts with 3-5 operations, the G200 can produce one part per spindle cycle — with 6 spindles, that is 6x the rate of a single-spindle machine. For typical automotive hydraulic fittings (8-12 operations), the G200 produces 300-600+ parts per hour, compared to 50-80 per hour on a single-spindle turning center.
02
With full CNC programming (no cam changes), a changeover between part families on the G200 takes 2-6 hours, compared to 8-40 hours for a cam-driven multi-spindle. The iXpanel conversational control reduces this further because programs can be pre-built offline and downloaded directly.
