Price estimate
We do not have a price for the SW BA 721 space that we can stand behind, so we show no number. Configuration, options and installation move the final price a long way: a quote is the reliable figure.
Overview
The SW BA 721 space is a twin-spindle machining center with the tallest work space in the BA 7 line: 1,175 mm (46.3 in) of Y for each of two HSK-A100 spindles. X is 650 mm (25.6 in) per spindle, Z is 650 mm (25.6 in), and the spindles are 700 mm (27.6 in) apart.
SW shows what it is for. A video on the series page presents the machining of in-line six-cylinder engine blocks on this model. A six-cylinder block is long, and stood upright in the fixture it needs exactly this kind of Y travel. Two blocks side by side, one per spindle, is the arrangement the 700 mm pitch allows.
The interference circle of the 4th axis is Ø 1,700 x 1,830 mm. Few twin-spindle machines rotate fixtures of that size. It lets the carrier present several faces of two large parts to the spindles without reclamping.
Spindle options are the two of the big BA 7 models: 42 kW at 25% ED with 400 Nm at 20% ED up to 12,500 rpm, or 52 kW with 615 Nm up to 6,000 rpm. For grey-iron truck blocks the slower spindle is the usual pick. For aluminium blocks the faster one is.
This is a single-table machine by SW's naming scheme. Loading happens with the spindles stopped, which on parts of this weight is normally done by gantry or robot.

Strengths & Limitations
Strengths
- 1,175 mm (46.3 in) of Y travel on each of two spindles
- Ø 1,700 x 1,830 mm interference circle on a twin-spindle machine
- Two HSK-A100 spindles 700 mm (27.6 in) apart, up to 615 Nm each at 20% ED
- 650 mm (25.6 in) of Z, more than the 560 mm (22.0 in) of the BA 721
Limitations
- X travel per spindle is 650 mm (25.6 in), so width per part is limited by the pitch
- Single work table: parts are changed with the spindles idle
- The high-torque spindle tops out at 6,000 rpm
- No load capacity or machine weight in SW's table

Frequently Asked Questions
01
The work space. Y travel is 1,175 mm (46.3 in) where the BA 721 has 650 mm (25.6 in), Z is 650 mm (25.6 in) where the BA 721 has 560 mm (22.0 in), and the interference circle is Ø 1,700 x 1,830 mm where the BA 721 has Ø 1,300 x 1,630 mm.
02
SW's series page carries a video on machining in-line six-cylinder engine blocks on this model, and the part list for the BA 7 includes truck engine blocks in iron casting. The 1,175 mm (46.3 in) of Y is what makes long blocks possible.
03
Two HSK-A100 spindles. Either the 1-12,500 rpm version with 42 kW at 25% ED and 400 Nm at 20% ED, or the 1-6,000 rpm version with 52 kW at 25% ED and 615 Nm at 20% ED. The figures are per spindle.
04
700 mm (27.6 in). Each spindle has 650 mm (25.6 in) of X travel, so two parts sit next to each other with a small gap, and each must stay within its own 650 mm of X.
