Overview
Bores up to Ø400 mm are the headline of the Supertec GM-45CNC: its internal grinding range is Ø6~Ø400 mm (Ø0.2~Ø16 in), twice the upper limit of the smallest GrindMaster. Outside diameters go to Ø450 mm (18 in) and the swing over the table is Ø500 mm (20 in). It is the middle machine of a three-model series of CNC complex grinders that finish bore, OD and faces in one chucking.
The bigger envelope comes from longer slides. The workhead (X) travels 600 mm (24 in), and both wheelhead axes, Y and Z, travel 500 mm, which lets a small ID wheel reach across a large ring. Workpiece length rises to 300 mm (12 in). Weight rises too, to 7,000 kg (15,432 lb) net.
Not everything scales. The chuck is still a 6 in hydraulic three-jaw as standard, on an A2-5 nose, and the load figure is unchanged at 50 kg (110 lb). A large-diameter part on this machine therefore has to be a light one, or be held on the optional 8 in chuck or a fixture agreed with the maker.
One setting the smaller model lacks is an adjustable wheelhead infeed angle, listed as 0°~20°. Supertec's text for the series says the swivelling wheelhead was designed for the flexibility job shops need, and that auto sizing devices can be added. The OD spindle is 5.6 kW (7.5 hp) at 1,800 rpm, and there is no B axis; that is reserved for the GM-80CNC.
