Overview
On the Supertec G38TH / G45TH CNC the wheelhead travels along the part instead of the table carrying the part past the wheel. Supertec files the series under traverse wheelhead cylindrical grinders, and the reason for the layout shows in the lengths on offer: six beds from 500 mm (20 in) to 4,000 mm (160 in) between centers. A moving table of that length would need twice the floor. A moving wheelhead does not.
There are two swings. The G38TH has a maximum grinding diameter of Ø380 mm (15 in) and the G45TH of Ø450 mm (18 in). Load between centers is 150 kg (330 lb) on the 50CNC and 100CNC and rises to 650 kg (1,430 lb) from the 200CNC upward. The long beds are also built differently at the centers: MT6 in the workhead and MT5 in the tailstock, where the two short beds use MT4 at both ends.
The wheel is Ø510 × 50 × Ø152.4 mm (20 × 2 × 6 in) at 1,250 rpm. Its motor is 5.6 kW as standard with 7.5 kW as the option. The infeed axis (X) rapids at 6 m/min over 225 mm (8.9 in) of travel, and the traverse axis, which the table labels Y, rapids at 8 m/min.
The table gives no machine weight for this series. It does give crate sizes, up to 6,980 × 2,280 × 2,360 mm (275 × 90 × 93 in) for the 400CNC, though none for the 250CNC.
