Overview

The Supertec GI-150CNC is a dedicated two-axis internal grinder. The CNC controls the table feed and the wheel infeed and nothing else, which keeps the machine simple next to the maker's three-axis complex grinders. It bores from Ø6~Ø150 mm (Ø0.25~Ø6 in) to a maximum grinding depth of 125 mm (5 in).

Parts are held in a 6 in hydraulic chuck, with an 8 in chuck as the option, and may weigh up to 50 kg (110 lb). The swing inside the chuck cover is Ø260 mm (10.2 in), and Ø220 mm (8.6 in) clears the dresser. The workhead swivel is listed as C.W.15°~C.C.W.5° for tapered bores, and the spindle turns at up to Max. 1,000 rpm.

Fine feed is the point of the design. Supertec describes a closed-loop X axis with a linear scale, and linear guides that allow a fine feed of 0.1μm on both the table and the infeed slide. X travels 200 mm (7.9 in) and Z 560 mm (22 in), each on a 1.8 kW servo motor at 8 m/min rapid.

The wheel spindle is belt driven by a 2.2 kW (2P) motor, with spindle speeds available across 8,000~30,000 rpm. A full enclosure splash guard with a manual door is standard in the table. The machine weighs 3,500 kg (7,716 lb) net, ships at 2,980 × 2,280 × 2,250 mm (117 × 90 × 88 in) and carries a 120 L coolant tank.

Strengths & Limitations

Strengths

  • Closed-loop X axis with linear scale feedback, per Supertec's description
  • Fine feed of 0.1μm on both guide faces through linear guides
  • 560 mm (22 in) of Z travel for a 125 mm (5 in) grinding depth, leaving room to retract and dress
  • Workhead swivel of C.W.15°~C.C.W.5° for taper bores
  • Full enclosure splash guard listed in the specification table

Limitations

  • Internal grinding only; there is no OD wheelhead on this model
  • Bore range ends at Ø150 mm and depth at 125 mm (5 in)
  • Maximum loading is 50 kg (110 lb)
  • The splash guard door is manual

Frequently Asked Questions

01 What bore sizes can the Supertec GI-150CNC grind?

The ID grinding range is Ø6~Ø150 mm (Ø0.25~Ø6 in) and the maximum grinding depth is 125 mm (5 in). Wheel spindles are offered across 8,000~30,000 rpm, so the spindle is matched to the bore diameter being ground.

02 How is the part held?

In a 6 in hydraulic chuck as standard, or an 8 in chuck as an option. Maximum loading is 50 kg (110 lb), the swing of the chuck cover is Ø260 mm (10.2 in) and the workhead is driven by a 1.5 kW (2.0 hp) servo motor at up to Max. 1,000 rpm.

03 Which axes does the CNC control?

Two. X is the infeed, with 200 mm (7.9 in) of travel and a minimum increment of Ø0.001 mm (0.0001 in). Z is the table, with 560 mm (22 in) of travel and a 0.001 mm (0.0001 in) increment. Both rapid at 8 m/min.

04 How does the GI-150CNC differ from the GM-35CNC?

The GM-35CNC is a three-axis complex grinder with an OD spindle as well as ID spindles, grinding bores up to Ø200 mm and outside diameters up to Ø350 mm (14 in) at 4,700 kg (10,361 lb). The GI-150CNC grinds bores only, on two axes, and weighs 3,500 kg (7,716 lb).
