We do not have a price for the Supertec G18P-40CNC that we can stand behind, so we show no number. Configuration, options and installation move the final price a long way: a quote is the reliable figure.
Overview
The Supertec G18P-40CNC is the smallest of the maker's CNC plunge-type cylindrical grinders: Ø180 mm (Ø7 in) of swing over the table, 400 mm (16 in) between centers and a work weight limit of 80 kg (176 lb). It is a two-axis machine. The wheelhead infeeds on X and the table traverses on Z, each driven by a 1.2 kW (1.6 hp) servo motor.
Small diameters are what the wheel is sized for. It measures Ø355 × 38 × Ø127 mm (Ø14 × 1.5 × Ø5 in) and turns at 1,940 rpm on a 5 kW (6.7 hp) motor. The G20P-40CNC, on the same 400 mm (16 in) of center distance, carries a wider Ø405 × 50 × Ø127 mm (Ø16 × 2 × Ø5 in) wheel, so the G18P-40CNC is the narrower-wheel machine of the two and suits short journals and shoulders rather than wide plunges.
Infeed travel is 150 mm (5.9 in) with a minimum increment of Ø0.001 mm (Ø0.0001 in). Supertec describes the saddle as running on hand scraped, Turcite coated double V and flat guideways with a precision ballscrew, and the wheel spindle as a cartridge type on four angular contact bearings. Both centers are MT 3 and the workhead runs to Max. 500 rpm on a 0.375 kW (0.5 hp) motor.
The table swivels 10° for taper correction, and the workhead itself swivels, which with the combination live and dead-type spindle allows chuck work as well as work between centers. An internal grinding attachment, automatic OD sizing, gap control, crash control and a touch probe are listed as optional equipment. The machine weighs 2,500 kg (5,511 lb) net.

Strengths & Limitations
Strengths
- Compact envelope for small shafts: Ø180 mm (Ø7 in) swing and 400 mm (16 in) between centers on a 2,500 kg (5,511 lb) machine
- Minimum infeed increment of Ø0.001 mm (Ø0.0001 in) on X and 0.001 mm (0.0001 in) on Z
- 5 kW (6.7 hp) wheel spindle motor behind a Ø355 × 38 × Ø127 mm (Ø14 × 1.5 × Ø5 in) wheel
- Workhead with a combination live and dead-type spindle, so center and chuck work change over without a different head
- Table swivels 10° for taper grinding and cylindricity correction
Limitations
- Work between centers is limited to 80 kg (176 lb) and 400 mm (16 in), so longer shafts need the G25P-50CNC or a larger series
- The 38 mm wheel width is narrower than the 50 mm wheel of the G20P-40CNC, which lengthens wide plunge cuts
- The workhead motor is 0.375 kW (0.5 hp), sized for light parts only
- The internal grinding attachment, automatic sizing, gap control and touch probe are optional equipment

Frequently Asked Questions
01
Swing over the table and maximum grinding diameter are both Ø180 mm (Ø7 in), the distance between centers is 400 mm (16 in), and the maximum load held between centers is 80 kg (176 lb). The workhead spindle bore is Ø20 mm (0.79 in).
02
Both have 400 mm (16 in) between centers. The G18P-40CNC swings Ø180 mm (Ø7 in) and uses a Ø355 × 38 × Ø127 mm (Ø14 × 1.5 × Ø5 in) wheel at 1,940 rpm. The G20P-40CNC swings Ø200 mm (Ø8 in) and uses a Ø405 × 50 × Ø127 mm (Ø16 × 2 × Ø5 in) wheel at 1,800 rpm, with 160 mm (6.3 in) of infeed travel against 150 mm (5.9 in) here.
03
The wheelhead (X axis) has a rapid feeding speed of 6 m/min, 150 mm (5.9 in) of infeed travel and a minimum increment of Ø0.001 mm (Ø0.0001 in). The table (Z axis) rapids at 8 m/min with a 0.001 mm (0.0001 in) minimum increment.
04
Not as the table lists it. Supertec describes a hinged, swing-down internal grinding attachment as optional for this series, with a locking device that stops it swinging down abruptly. Without it the machine is an external grinder for work between centers or in a chuck.
