Overview
The Sodick AQ15L is a large die-sinking EDM built around a long Y axis: 900 mm of X, Y listed as 1,500(+500) mm, and 600 mm of Z. It carries workpieces up to 10,000 kg and electrodes up to 100 kg, which puts it in the class for big mould plates and heavy dies.
Sodick writes the Y travel as 1,500 mm with a further 500 mm in brackets. The table does not say when the extra 500 mm applies, so confirm with Sodick whether it is standard, optional or limited to part of the range before planning a job that needs it. Either way the long axis is Y, so a long plate is loaded front to back rather than across the machine.
A 100 kg electrode allows large graphite or copper electrodes for burning big cavities, and 600 mm of Z leaves room for them above a thick plate. The AQ20L, the larger sibling, lists 1,200 mm of X and 2,000 mm of Y on the same 600 mm of Z.
