Overview
The Sodick AGL Series Sinker EDM covers two linear-motor sinkers, the AG40L (with its AG40LP variant) and the larger AG60L. Strokes are 400 x 300 x 270 mm on the AG40L and 600 x 420 x 370 mm on the AG60L, over ceramic tables of 600 x 400 mm and 750 x 550 mm. Both use full closed-loop position detection on linear scales with a 0.1 µm minimum command unit.
The step between the two sizes is larger than the strokes suggest. The AG40L takes workpieces up to 550 kg (1,213 lb) in a 750 x 620 x 350 mm tank, while the AG60L takes 1,500 kg (3,307 lb) in a 950 x 740 x 450 mm tank. Liquid level adjusts over 100 – 300 mm on the AG40L and 150 – 400 mm from the table surface on the AG60L, with maximum machining tank capacities of 190 L and 330 L. Within the smaller size, the choice between AG40L and AG40LP comes down to electrode weight: 50 kg suspended on the standard machine, 20 kg on the AG40LP.
Both sizes share the TMM3 power supply (arc-less, SVC circuit) at 40 A maximum machining current, fed from 200/220 V, 50/60 Hz with 10 kVA total capacity, and both need air at 0.65 MPa, 100 NL/min. Feed speed on X, Y and Z is 6 m/min; AJC speed reaches 10 m/min on X and Y and 36 m/min on Z. The control is an OS built-in multitasking NC with the K-SMC-LINK method, a 15-inch TFT-LCD touch panel, 100,000-block editing and 30 MB of storage.
Plan the floor around 1,550 x 2,440 x 2,330 mm for the AG40L (1,550 x 2,407 x 2,330 mm for the AG40LP) or 1,740 x 2,785 x 2,570 mm for the AG60L, at 4,000 kg and 5,150 kg including power supply and service tank. EDM oil requirement is 285 L for the AG40L (330 L with service tank) and 465 L (560 L) for the AG60L, with a replaceable paper filter. Electrode clamping can be EROWA COMBI or ITS, System 3R COMBI or MACRO, or the TP specification.
