Overview
The Sodick AP1L is a very small die-sinking EDM: 200 mm of X, 120 mm of Y and 200 mm of Z travel, with limits of 5 kg on the electrode and 25 kg on the workpiece. Those last two figures define it. This is a machine for small precision inserts, micro features and fine detail, not for cavity work on plates.
Y is the short axis. At 120 mm it is little more than half the X stroke, so the parts that suit the AP1L are narrow or small enough to be burned without repositioning. The 200 mm of Z, equal to the X stroke, leaves room for a long slender electrode above a small part. For scale, the AP30L travels 300 × 250 × 200 mm and takes a 200 kg workpiece. The AP1L stands 2,030 mm tall on a floor area of 1,360 × 1,920 mm.
