Overview
The Sodick AQ20L is a large-format die-sinking EDM with 1,200 mm of X, 2,000 mm of Y and 600 mm of Z travel. It is rated for workpieces of 10,000 kg and electrodes of 100 kg, so it is built for large mould plates and dies whose cavities are too long for the 900 mm X stroke of the AQ15L.
Against the AQ15L, which lists 900 mm of X and Y of 1,500(+500) mm, the AQ20L is wider in X and states its 2,000 mm Y stroke without any qualifier. Z stays at 600 mm on both, as do the workpiece and electrode limits, so the choice between them comes down to plate size and floor space.
The AQ20L occupies 3,550 × 5,785 × 4,220 mm. That length, plus room to swing a crane load, means a dedicated bay, and the floor must carry the machine together with a 10,000 kg plate. A 100 kg electrode also needs a lifting aid at the head, so plan electrode handling together with the machine rather than after it arrives.
