Price estimate
We do not have a price for the SCM Hypsos that we can stand behind, so we show no number. Configuration, options and installation move the final price a long way: a quote is the reliable figure.
Overview
The SCM Hypsos is a 5-axis machining center with an integrated cabin and a Z-axis stroke of 1,200 mm (47.2 in), far more height than a panel-processing center offers. SCM builds it for complex shaped parts in curved or solid wood: armchairs, chairs, stairs and design furnishing pieces.
Six models are listed, named by their X and Y strokes. X is 3,600 mm (141.7 in), 4,800 mm (189.0 in) or 6,000 mm (236.2 in), and each length comes with a Y-axis stroke of 1,800 mm (70.9 in) or 2,600 mm (102.4 in). Z is the same on all six, so choosing a size is a question of footprint and part length, never of height.
The head tilts +/- 120° in B and turns +/- 270° in C. With that B range the tool can reach below horizontal on either side of a part, which is what a chair leg or a curved stair element needs. The C axis is not endless, so long spiral paths include an unwind move. The machining unit is rated at up to 20 kW (26.8 hp) and 24000 rpm, and SCM describes it as suited to heavy duty operations on solid wood.
Axis speeds are 80-80-70 m/min in X-Y-Z; the Z figure is notably close to the other two, which matters on a machine that spends much of its time moving vertically. Tools are held in a linear store listed as 8/12 positions and a circular store with 20 positions. The structure is a fixed base with integrated worktable and a movable beam.

Strengths & Limitations
Strengths
- Z-axis stroke of 1,200 mm (47.2 in) on every model for deep three-dimensional parts
- B rotation of +/- 120° and C rotation of +/- 270° on the 5-axis machining unit
- Machining unit of up to 20 kW (26.8 hp) at 24000 rpm for heavy cuts in solid wood
- Z-axis speed of 70 m/min, close to the 80 m/min of X and Y
- Six models covering X from 3,600 mm (141.7 in) to 6,000 mm (236.2 in)
Limitations
- C rotation is limited to +/- 270°, so it is not a continuous axis
- SCM lists no drilling unit for this model; holes are made with tools in the main spindle
- Circular tool store holds 20 positions, small next to the 48-position rear store of the Accord 50 FX

Frequently Asked Questions
01
Six models: 3618, 3626, 4818, 4826, 6018 and 6026. The X-axis stroke is 3,600 mm (141.7 in), 4,800 mm (189.0 in) or 6,000 mm (236.2 in), and the Y-axis stroke is 1,800 mm (70.9 in) or 2,600 mm (102.4 in). The Z-axis stroke is 1,200 mm (47.2 in) on all of them.
02
B rotation is +/- 120° and C rotation is +/- 270°. Neither axis rotates continuously, so programs that circle a part repeatedly need to allow for the C axis returning.
03
SCM lists the machining unit with a maximum motor power of 20 kW (26.8 hp) and a maximum rotating speed of 24000 rpm. It describes the unit as able to perform heavy duty operations on solid wood for three-dimensional elements.
04
The table lists a linear tool store with 8/12 positions and a circular tool store with 20 positions. SCM mentions several automatic tool change solutions, so confirm which store is in the machine you are offered.
