Overview
The ROMI DCM 620-5F is the five-face version of Romi’s trunnion-table vertical machining center. It has the full mechanical set of a 5-axis machine, a 600 x 600 mm (23.6 x 23.6 in) rotary table tilting on a B axis and turning on a C axis, but Romi specifies it for angular positioning: the table indexes the part to an angle, clamps, and the three linear axes do the cutting.
For most prismatic work that is all that is needed. A housing or manifold with features on five sides is finished in one clamping, and each face is cut with the table locked at 4,500 Nm (3,319 lb-ft) on B and 2,500 Nm (1,844 lb-ft) on C. The B axis tilts from +110° ~ -50° and C turns 360°, both at up to 25 rpm.
This model keeps one choice that the 5X does not: the spindle. It can be ordered at 10,000 rpm with a 20 hp / 15 kW motor or at 15,000 rpm with 22 hp / 16.5 kW; maximum torque is 82 Nm (60.5 lb-ft) either way. The lower-speed version also has the shorter footprint, 3,559 x 3,642 mm (140.1 x 143.4 in). The control is a Siemens Sinumerik 828D.
Linear travels are 620 mm (24.4 in), 520 mm (20.47 in) and 470 mm (18.5 in) in X, Y and Z, with 36 m/min (1,417 in/min) rapids on roller-type linear guides. The table carries 500 kg (1,102 lb), and the largest part is Ø675 x 430 mm height or Ø520 x 330 mm height depending on how far the table must tilt. Thirty ISO 40 tools sit in the magazine, each up to 250 mm (9.8 in) long.
