X is the whole story when comparing it with the HBMx80i. The HBMx80i has the same Y and Z travels, the same table, the same 6,300 kg (13,889 lb) rating and the same spindle, with 2,000 mm (78.74 in) of X. The HBMx120i adds X reach and nothing else, at a machine weight of 25,500 kg against 23,500 kg for the HBMx80i. Since the table does not grow, the extra X serves parts that are long rather than heavier ones: long frames, beds and weldments, or several parts placed along the axis, as long as their weight stays within the table rating.
The spindle is torque-first. 1,500 Nm (1,106.3 ft-lb) drives large boring bars, face mills and drills in steel and cast iron, and the 2,500 rpm top speed keeps it out of small-tool work. With the B axis indexing the table through 360° and the W axis adding 500 mm (19.7 in) along the spindle line, bores on several faces of a long part can be finished in one setup.
The 60-tool magazine takes tools up to 400 mm (15.7 in) long and 25 kg (55.1 lb), with a 15 sec tool-to-tool time. At 25,500 kg the machine needs a foundation, rigging and floor space for the 3,000 mm X stroke planned in advance. It runs Hurco's WinMax control, which offers conversational programming as well as NC.
