Overview

The PAMA Speedmat is a T-type boring and milling center: the table travels on X in front of a column that moves toward it on Z, and the headstock climbs the column on Y. Unlike the maker's floor-type machines, the workpiece sits on a rotating table that is part of the machine, which makes four-sided machining in one clamping the normal way of working.

The table defines the size. Swing diameter is 2,200 - 5,000 mm. Milling tables or pallets run from 1,250 x 1,250 to 3,000 x 3,000 mm and carry up to 50,000 kg, on a hydrostatic rotating B axis with rapid feed up to 6 rpm. Travels are 2,200 - 5,000 mm in X, 1,750 - 4,000 mm in Y and 1,500 - 4,000 mm in Z.

Three headstocks are tabulated, and the choice sets the character of the machine. The W headstock has a boring spindle of 130 - 160 mm with 800 mm (31.5 in) of W travel, driven through 2 ranges for 1,389 - 3,451 Nm at 3,000 - 4,000 rpm. The WD headstock is the Direct Drive bar, 120 - 160 mm, with 1,175 - 2,494 Nm at 4,000 - 5,000 rpm. The MD headstock drops the bar for a Direct Drive unit at 4,000 - 6,000 rpm and 66 - 90 kW.

There is a multitasking version as well. PAMA's TTR turning tables, Ø1,250 - Ø3,500 mm, take up to 32,000 kg and turn at up to 300 rpm, on the same hydrostatic principle as the milling tables.

Linear rapids are up to 50,000 mm/min. Pallet systems, attachment heads and automatic tool and head changers extend the machine, with Siemens, Heidenhain or Fanuc control.

Strengths & Limitations

Strengths

  • Hydrostatic rotary table carrying up to 50,000 kg, with tables up to 3,000 x 3,000 mm
  • Three headstock types: geared boring bar, Direct Drive boring bar, or Direct Drive without bar
  • Geared W headstock with 1,389 - 3,451 Nm; boring spindle 130 - 160 mm
  • Turning tables of Ø1,250 - Ø3,500 mm at up to 300 rpm for multitasking
  • Rapid feed up to 50,000 mm/min on X, Y and Z

Limitations

  • B axis rapid feed is up to 6 rpm, slow for frequent indexing of light parts
  • Turning table load, up to 32,000 kg, is lower than the milling table load
  • W travel of the boring spindle is 800 mm at most, less than on the floor-type Speedram
  • Figures are ranges across four sizes; the values per size must be requested

Frequently Asked Questions

01 What is a T-type machine like the PAMA Speedmat?

The table and the column move on beds set at right angles, forming a T. On the Speedmat the table travels 2,200 - 5,000 mm on X, the column 1,500 - 4,000 mm on Z and the headstock 1,750 - 4,000 mm on Y. The column is thermally symmetric with a central headstock.

02 Which headstocks can the Speedmat be ordered with?

The technical sheet lists three. W: boring spindle 130 - 160 mm, 2 ranges, 41 - 82 kW, 1,389 - 3,451 Nm, 3,000 - 4,000 rpm. WD: Direct Drive bar 120 - 160 mm, 66 - 82 kW, 1,175 - 2,494 Nm, 4,000 - 5,000 rpm. MD: Direct Drive, 66 - 90 kW, 822 - 2,494 Nm, 4,000 - 6,000 rpm.

03 How much weight does the Speedmat table carry?

Milling tables or pallets, from 1,250 x 1,250 to 3,000 x 3,000 mm, carry up to 50,000 kg. Turning tables, Ø1,250 - Ø3,500 mm, carry up to 32,000 kg at turning speeds up to 300 rpm. Swing diameter is 2,200 - 5,000 mm.

04 Can the Speedmat turn as well as mill?

Yes, in the multitasking version. PAMA offers TTR tables built on its hydrostatic concept for turning, alongside the hydrostatic milling tables. The technical sheet lists turning tables of Ø1,250 - Ø3,500 mm with a turning speed of up to 300 rpm.
