Overview

Twenty-two feet long, five feet wide, 28 in (711 mm) deep: the Onsrud 265G 5-Axis is a 5-axis moving-gantry router for long three-dimensional parts. Onsrud lists the table at 265 in (6,731 mm) by 61 in (1,550 mm).

Six vacuum zones are standard, three for each half of the bed. On this model the zone count sits where the pattern says it should, between the 217G 5-Axis with 5 and the 300G 5-Axis with 7.

A long, narrow, deep envelope is an unusual shape, and the parts that fit it are particular. Rotor blade and propeller patterns. Spar and longeron tools. Keel and rudder plugs. Long architectural mouldings carved from foam or wood. All of them are many times longer than they are wide, and all need the head to roll around a curved section. For such parts a wider machine would simply be more floor.

The frame is 371 in (9,424 mm) long and 142 in (3,607 mm) wide, and 155 in (3,937 mm) high. Onsrud's upgrade list for the series has a 33 hp (24.6 kW) spindle, a dual gantry and a second tool changer. The base machine carries 18 hp (13.4 kW), 24,000 rpm and 12 tools, and runs from a FANUC interface or Onsrud's touchscreen.

Frequently Asked Questions

01 What is the table size of the Onsrud 265G 5-Axis?

265 in (6,731 mm) in X by 61 in (1,550 mm) in Y. Onsrud lists 6 vacuum zones as standard and a 28 in (711 mm) Z-stroke for this code.

02 How does the 265G 5-Axis compare with the 277G 5-Axis?

They serve different work. The 277G 5-Axis is a shallow machine, listed with 16 in or 18 in of Z. The 265G 5-Axis has 28 in of Z and stands 155 in (3,937 mm) high. Its table X is 265 in (6,731 mm).

03 How much room does the 265G 5-Axis need?

The frame is 371 in (9,424 mm) by 142 in (3,607 mm) and 155 in (3,937 mm) high. A machine this long is usually loaded from the side with a crane or lift, so leave an aisle along its length.

04 Can the 265G 5-Axis run two gantries?

A dual gantry is a listed upgrade. Onsrud describes two gantries producing similar parts in tandem, or one being parked while the other machines a large part end to end, which is the usual case for a long pattern.
