Price estimate
We do not have a price for the Niigata HN50E-5X that we can stand behind, so we show no number. Configuration, options and installation move the final price a long way: a quote is the reliable figure.
Overview
The Niigata HN50E-5X is the smallest of the maker's trunnion-table 5-axis horizontal machining centers. A 500 mm × 500 mm pallet rotates through 360° on the B axis and tilts on the A axis from 10° to -100°, under a BT50 spindle rated at 901 N·m (665 lb-ft).
The starting point is the HN50E, but the 5X is not simply that machine with a tilting table bolted on. Y travel is 930 mm (36.6 in) and Z is 830 mm (32.7 in), both longer than on the 4-axis model, because the spindle has to reach a part that swings through the tilt. X stays at 800 mm. The price of the trunnion is capacity: the workpiece is limited to φ750 mm × 700 mm and 600 kg (1,323 lb).
Niigata builds the machine on a T-shaped, one-piece cast base with heavy ribbing and uses its bell-shaped monster column. Sliding surfaces are lined with a low-friction material and scraped by hand. In other words it is a box-way 5-axis machine intended for difficult-to-cut materials, and its 30 m/min rapids reflect that priority.
The standard high-power spindle turns 6,000 min-1 with a 26 kW (34.9 hp) motor. For lighter cutting a high speed spindle is listed with 12,000 min-1, 420 N·m and 30 kW. Both rotary axes are NC axes; the table lists an indexing angle of 0.0001°. Tool capacity is 62, with larger chain and matrix magazines as options.

Strengths & Limitations
Strengths
- Trunnion table with A-axis tilt from 10° to -100° and 360° B-axis rotation
- 901 N·m (665 lb-ft) BT50 spindle on a 5-axis machine with a 500 mm pallet
- 0.0001° indexing on the NC table
- Y and Z travels of 930 mm and 830 mm give clearance around a tilted part
- Box-way structure with monster column and T-shaped one-piece base
Limitations
- Maximum load is 600 kg (1,323 lb), less than the 800 kg of the 4-axis HN50E
- Workpiece limited to φ750 mm × 700 mm
- 30 m/min rapids and a 6,000 min-1 standard spindle limit high-speed finishing of sculpted surfaces

Frequently Asked Questions
01
The A axis, which tilts the table, moves from 10° to -100°. The B axis, which rotates the pallet, covers 360°. The table is an NC table with an indexing angle of 0.0001°.
02
The maximum workpiece is φ750 mm in swing diameter and 700 mm in height, with a mass of up to 600 kg (1,323 lb) on the 500 mm × 500 mm pallet. Linear travels are 800 mm in X, 930 mm in Y and 830 mm in Z.
03
Niigata's spindle table for the HN50E-5X and HN63E-5X lists a standard high-power spindle of 6,000 min-1, 901 N·m and 26 kW, and a high speed spindle of 12,000 min-1, 420 N·m and 30 kW.
04
They share Y and Z travels and the same spindles. The HN63E-5X has a 630 mm × 630 mm pallet, 900 mm of X, a φ950 mm × 800 mm workpiece and 1,000 kg of load. The HN50E-5X is the choice when parts stay within φ750 mm × 700 mm and 600 kg.
