Overview

The Mazak INTEGREX e-RAMTEC V/8 is a vertical multi-tasking machine built around a ram-type milling head working over a horizontal rotary table. The ram construction is the point of the machine: it carries the spindle deep into a workpiece rather than relying on extended tooling, so internal bores, pockets and passages can be cut with the spindle nose close to the work instead of with a long, deflection-prone tool hanging off a conventional head.

The Z travel reflects that. At 1595 mm (63 in) it is longer than the machine's own 1250 mm maximum workpiece height, which is what allows the head to reach fully inside a deep part and still retract clear for loading. X travel is 1875 mm (74 in) and Y is 1060 mm (42 in), all three rapiding at 42000 mm/min (1654 IPM).

Capacity is Φ1250 mm (Φ49 in) by 1250 mm high at up to 2700 kg (5952 lbs). The table turns to 500 rpm with 2954 N·m peak and 2167 N·m continuous torque from a 37 kW (50 HP) peak, 30 kW (40 HP) continuous motor, so it performs vertical turning as well as positioning. As a C-axis it resolves to 0.0001° and rapids at 18 rpm.

The milling spindle runs to 10000 rpm through BT50 tooling at 37 kW (50 HP) peak and 30 kW (40 HP) continuous, with 260 N·m peak and 191 N·m continuous torque. The B-axis covers 150° with a 0.0001° minimum increment, letting the ram be angled inside the part to reach features that are not normal to the top face.

The 40-pocket magazine accepts tools to Φ135 mm, Φ260 mm with an adjacent pocket empty, 650 mm long and 30 kg. On deep internal work, tool length is usually the binding constraint rather than pocket count.

At 46000 kg (101413 lbs) on a 7265 × 7823 mm footprint and 5160 mm (203 in) tall, the V/8 needs substantial ceiling height as well as floor. It consolidates work that would otherwise pass across a vertical turning lathe, a boring mill and a machining center — valve bodies, pump casings, large housings and similar deep-cavity components.

Strengths & Limitations

Strengths

  • Ram-type head carries the spindle deep into a workpiece, so internal bores and passages are cut with the spindle nose close to the work instead of on a long, deflection-prone tool
  • 1595 mm (63 in) of Z travel is longer than the 1250 mm maximum workpiece height, letting the head reach fully inside a deep part and still retract clear for loading
  • Table doubles as a vertical turning spindle at 500 rpm with 2954 N·m peak and 2167 N·m continuous torque from a 37 kW (50 HP) peak, 30 kW (40 HP) continuous motor
  • Milling spindle to 10000 rpm through BT50 at 37 kW (50 HP) peak and 30 kW (40 HP) continuous, with 260 N·m peak torque
  • B-axis covering 150° at a 0.0001° minimum increment angles the ram inside the part to reach features not normal to the top face
  • 40-pocket magazine takes tools to Φ260 mm with an adjacent pocket empty, 650 mm long and 30 kg

Limitations

  • 5160 mm (203 in) of machine height demands substantial ceiling clearance that many buildings cannot provide
  • 46000 kg (101413 lbs) on a 7265 mm × 7823 mm footprint is a foundation-level install with a large floor claim
  • On deep internal work, the 650 mm maximum tool length tends to bind before pocket count does
  • 1060 mm (42 in) of Y travel is shorter than the Φ1250 mm maximum workpiece diameter, so the head cannot cross the full part width off centerline
  • The vertical table layout is built for parts large in diameter relative to length, not for long shaft work

Best For

Deep-cavity components — valve bodies, pump casings and large housings — where the ram reaches inside the part Work that would otherwise pass across a vertical turning lathe, a boring mill and a machining center Large-diameter parts up to Φ1250 mm × 1250 mm and 2700 kg (5952 lbs) Internal features that are not normal to the top face and need the ram angled on the B-axis Energy and heavy industrial shops with the ceiling height and foundation to support the installation

Frequently Asked Questions

01 What makes the e-RAMTEC V/8 different from a conventional vertical mill-turn?

The ram-type head. It carries the spindle deep into a workpiece rather than relying on extended tooling, so internal bores, pockets and passages are cut with the spindle nose close to the work. The 1595 mm (63 in) Z travel — longer than the machine's own 1250 mm maximum workpiece height — is what lets the head reach fully inside a deep part and still retract clear for loading.

02 How large a part will it take?

Maximum machining diameter is Φ1250 mm (Φ49 in), with a workpiece envelope of Φ1250 mm × 1250 mm and a table load capacity of 2700 kg (5952 lbs). Travels are 1875 mm (74 in) in X, 1060 mm (42 in) in Y and 1595 mm (63 in) in Z, all rapiding at 42000 mm/min (1654 IPM).

03 Can the e-RAMTEC V/8 turn as well as mill?

Yes. The table runs to 500 rpm with 2954 N·m peak and 2167 N·m continuous torque from a 37 kW (50 HP) peak, 30 kW (40 HP) continuous motor, so vertical turning is a real operation on this machine. As a C-axis it resolves to 0.0001° and rapids at 18 rpm.

04 What are the installation requirements?

The machine weighs 46000 kg (101413 lbs), occupies 7265 mm × 7823 mm of floor and stands 5160 mm (203 in) tall. Ceiling height is usually the harder constraint of the two, so it is worth confirming clearance and crane capacity before committing to the machine.
