Overview

The Mazak INTEGREX j-200S is the dual-spindle variant of the j-200, adding a second turning spindle for done-in-one processing of both part ends. The sub-spindle is a built-in motor design equivalent to the main spindle, enabling automatic part transfer and back-work operations without removing the workpiece from the machine.

The j-200S uses an 8-inch chuck with 500 mm (19.69 in) max machining diameter and 910 mm (35.83 in) max machining length. The milling spindle runs to 12,000 RPM with 7.5 kW (10 hp) through HSK-A63 tooling. The main turning spindle reaches 5,000 RPM with 15 kW (20 hp). Like the single-spindle j-200, the B-axis indexes in 5-degree increments on the original model.

The second spindle transforms the j-200 from a basic multi-tasking machine into a complete done-in-one production cell. Parts that would normally require a second operation on a separate lathe or mill can be fully machined in a single cycle. This eliminates refixturing errors, reduces WIP inventory, and cuts total processing time.

The j-200S runs on MAZATROL Matrix 2 or SmoothG depending on vintage. New pre-NEO machines priced $180,000-$240,000. Used units from 2010-2018 trade $80,000-$170,000. The j-200S NEO updated the platform with SmoothAi control and improved B-axis options. For shops running parts needing back-side features at a budget price, the j-200S remains one of the most cost-effective done-in-one solutions.

Strengths & Limitations

Strengths

  • Built-in sub-spindle equivalent to main spindle enables complete done-in-one processing at the lowest INTEGREX price point
  • Automatic part transfer between spindles eliminates refixturing errors and reduces WIP inventory
  • 12,000 RPM milling spindle provides genuine machining center capability for secondary operations on both ends
  • Strong used market availability at $80K-$170K makes dual-spindle multi-tasking accessible to smaller shops
  • Compact footprint packs done-in-one capability into less floor space than separate lathe and mill
  • Skills transfer directly to larger INTEGREX -S models when shops scale up

Limitations

  • 5-degree B-axis indexing limits angular positioning; continuous B-axis requires i-Series or j-200S NEO HP spec
  • 7.5 kW milling spindle is adequate for light milling but limits heavy material removal on steel
  • 20-tool standard magazine fills quickly when programming both first-op and second-op with milling
  • Part transfer programming adds complexity versus single-spindle operation
  • Sub-spindle reduces max turning length compared to tailstock-equipped j-200

Best For

Shops needing done-in-one processing at the lowest possible INTEGREX investment Job shops running parts with back-side features currently requiring a second-op on a separate machine Production environments where eliminating part transfer between machines reduces lead time and quality risk Manufacturers of connector bodies, valve components, and flanged parts requiring machining on both ends Training environments needing dual-spindle multi-tasking capability at accessible cost

Frequently Asked Questions

01 j-200S cost?

New pre-NEO machines were $180K-$240K. Used 2010-2018 units trade $80K-$170K. The j-200S NEO with SmoothAi runs $240K-$320K new.

02 j-200S vs j-200?

The -S adds a second turning spindle for back-work and done-in-one processing. Max length changes to 910 mm (35.83 in). Premium is $30K-$40K new. Worth it if more than 30% of your parts need back-side features.

03 j-200S vs j-200S NEO?

NEO adds SmoothAi control, improves B-axis to 1-degree standard (0.0001-degree HP), and offers higher-power spindle options. Buy NEO new; the original j-200S is the value play on the used market.

04 Part transfer reliability?

The built-in motor sub-spindle provides smooth, consistent transfers. Set up proper gripper pressure and load detection per part. Reliability is well-proven across the large j-200S install base.
