Overview

A 200 A source is where many plate shops start, and the Kjellberg Smart Focus 200 is that size in the Smart Focus series. Cutting current is 35 - 200 A. The maximum cutting thickness is 60 mm (2.4 in), the recommended range is 1 - 40 mm (0.04 - 1.6 in) and piercing is listed at 30 mm (1.2 in).

Notice how piercing trails the other figures. A part nested inside 40 mm plate sits in the recommended range, yet cannot be pierced, because the piercing limit is 30 mm. Interior cut-outs in plate above that need a pre-drilled start or a lead-in from the edge.

Silent Cut suits this model well. Kjellberg states that it reduces the sound pressure level by up to 15 dB(A) when cutting with currents between 60 and 160 A, a band that lies entirely inside the unit's current range. Contour Cut for mild steel, HiFinox for stainless steel and aluminium from 1 to 6 mm and Ar/H2 Mix from 6 mm are listed as well.

The power source weighs 388 kg (855 lb) in a 1030 x 680 x 1450 mm cabinet and connects to 3x 400 V, 50 Hz on an 80 A slow fuse, with a connected load of max. 51 kVA. Torch equipment is the PerCut 2000 with a PerCut 4000 quick change head. The series brochure adds that the units can also be used for marking, bevel and underwater cutting.

Strengths & Limitations

Strengths

  • Cutting current of 35 - 200 A at a 100 % duty cycle
  • Maximum cutting thickness of 60 mm (2.4 in) with a recommended range of 1 - 40 mm (0.04 - 1.6 in)
  • The whole Silent Cut band of 60 to 160 A lies inside its current range
  • 80 A slow fuse and max. 51 kVA connected load
  • PerCut 2000 machine torch with PerCut 4000 quick change head

Limitations

  • Piercing is listed at 30 mm, below the 40 mm top of the recommended range
  • Plate between 40 mm and the 60 mm maximum is outside the recommended range
  • Cutting range and current start at 1 mm and 35 A
  • At 388 kg it is clearly heavier than the Smart Focus 130, which weighs 266 kg

Frequently Asked Questions

01 What is the cutting capacity of the Smart Focus 200?

The cutting range row lists a maximum of 60 mm (2.4 in) and a recommended range of 1 - 40 mm. Piercing is listed at 30 mm, so plate thicker than that is cut from an edge start even when it is inside the recommended range.

02 How loud is the Smart Focus 200 when cutting?

No sound level is listed. What Kjellberg states is a reduction: the Silent Cut technology lowers the sound pressure level by up to 15 dB(A) during cutting with currents between 60 and 160 A. It is a development of Contour Cut and applies to mild steel.

03 What power supply does the Smart Focus 200 need?

Mains voltage is 3x 400 V, 50 Hz. The series brochure lists an 80 A slow fuse and a connected load of max. 51 kVA. Other voltages and frequencies are available upon request.

04 Can the Smart Focus 200 do bevel cutting?

The series brochure states that the Smart Focus units can also be used for marking, bevel and underwater cutting, and that PerCut torches are also for bevel cutting up to 50°. The bevel head and motion come from the guiding system the source is installed on.
