Overview

The Kjellberg Smart Focus 130 is the entry model of the Smart Focus series, a plasma power source for mechanised cutting with a cutting current of 35 - 130 A. Its cutting range has a maximum of 40 mm (1.6 in) and a recommended band of 1 - 32 mm (0.04 - 1.3 in), and piercing is listed at 25 mm (1.0 in).

It is the only Smart Focus unit in the smaller housing. The cabinet measures 1030 x 570 x 1260 mm and weighs 266 kg (586 lb); from the Smart Focus 200 upward the series uses a 1030 x 680 x 1450 mm cabinet. Electrically it is just as modest, with a 50 A slow fuse and a connected load of max. 28 kVA on 3x 400 V, 50 Hz.

Two numbers mark the lower edge of what it does. The current range starts at 35 A and the cutting range at 1 mm, so very thin sheet below that is outside the listed range. The HiFocus 161i neo, for comparison, is listed from 0.5 mm with a cutting range of 0.5 - 50 mm (0.02 - 2.0 in).

The torch equipment is the PerCut 2000 machine torch with a PerCut 4000 quick change head, clamped at 50.8 mm. Plasma gases are O2, Ar / H2, N2 and Air. Kjellberg offers either manual or automated gas supply for the series, the PGE-300 and the PGV-300, and states that the manual PGE-300 allows cutting with air as plasma gas. Marking runs at 10 - 50 A with Ar, N2 or Air.

Strengths & Limitations

Strengths

  • Compact 1030 x 570 x 1260 mm cabinet at 266 kg (586 lb), the smallest of the Smart Focus series
  • Runs on a 50 A slow fuse with a connected load of max. 28 kVA
  • Recommended cutting range of 1 - 32 mm (0.04 - 1.3 in) with piercing at 25 mm (1.0 in)
  • 100 % duty cycle at an ambient temperature of 40 °C
  • Manual PGE-300 or automated PGV-300 gas supply; the PGE-300 allows cutting with air as plasma gas

Limitations

  • The cutting range starts at 1 mm and the current at 35 A, so the thinnest sheet is outside the listed range
  • Maximum cutting thickness is 40 mm, and only 32 mm is inside the recommended range
  • Piercing is limited to 25 mm
  • Mains voltage is listed as 3x 400 V, 50 Hz; other voltages and frequencies are on request

Frequently Asked Questions

01 How thick can the Smart Focus 130 cut?

The maximum is 40 mm (1.6 in) and the recommended cutting range is 1 - 32 mm. Piercing is listed at 25 mm. Plate between the piercing figure and the maximum is cut from an edge start.

02 Which torch does the Smart Focus 130 use?

The table lists the PerCut 2000 as the plasma machine torch and the PerCut 4000 as the quick change head. The series brochure gives a clamping diameter of 50.8 mm and states that PerCut torches are also for bevel cutting up to 50°.

03 What gas supply does the Smart Focus 130 need?

Plasma gases are O2, Ar / H2, N2 and Air, marking gases are Ar, N2 and Air, and swirl gases are O2, N2, F5 and Air. Kjellberg offers a manual gas supply unit, the PGE-300, and an automated one, the PGV-300. The PGE-300 allows plasma cutting with air as plasma gas.

04 How does the Smart Focus 130 differ from the Smart Focus 200?

The Smart Focus 200 has a cutting current of 35 - 200 A, a maximum of 60 mm and weighs 388 kg in the larger cabinet. The Smart Focus 130 stops at 130 A and a 40 mm maximum, but weighs 266 kg and needs a 50 A slow fuse where the Smart Focus 200 needs 80 A.
