Overview

The Arclight Dynamics Arc Max Ultra 5x5 puts the Arc Max structure into the smallest footprint the series offers: a 62 x 64 in cutting envelope with 6.5 in of Z. It is the heavy-frame Arc Max table running Arclight CNC software. The square bed suits thick plate drops and short heavy parts more than sheet nesting.

The Arc Max frame is welded as one unit from 3 x 3 in steel tubing with a 3/16 in wall, then powder coated. On top of that mass sits a low-mass aluminum dual-drive gantry with 8.5 in of clearance, on Hiwin 20 mm precision linear guide rails. A heavy base under a light gantry is what lets the torch change direction quickly without shaking the table. Arclight lists 0.001 in positioning accuracy and rates the table for 2 in mild steel. The slat surface is flush with the table sides, and built-in rollers help slide plate on.

Its base is 70 x 68 in, overall dimensions are listed as 88 in L x 80 in W x 60 in H, and the table weighs 1,200 lb. The water pan holds 120 gallons. For a table rated for plate this is a compact package, and it is the only Arc Max size that does not need a bay long enough for a full sheet.

Arclight CNC software, written for this series, runs on industrial Linux and communicates over Ethernet. It gives rewind and fast forward along the cut path, start point recovery after a power-down, plate skew correction and an auto rip cut for remnants. Torch height control and dynamic voltage sampling are standard. Under the slats, the water pan is 8 1/2 in deep in 12g steel with an expanded metal barrier that catches small parts, and it drains through twin 1.25 in ball valves. The plasma cutter is chosen separately.

Strengths & Limitations

Strengths

  • 8.5 in of gantry clearance on a low-mass aluminum dual-drive gantry
  • Water pan 8 1/2 in deep with an expanded metal parts barrier and twin 1.25 in drains
  • Arclight CNC software with cut-path rewind, start point recovery and auto rip cut
  • Arc Max construction on a 70 x 68 in base

Limitations

  • No integrated CAD/CAM nesting package as on the Elite version
  • The plasma cutter is not part of the base table
  • 62 x 64 in envelope: full sheets must be cut down first

Frequently Asked Questions

01 How large is the Arc Max Ultra 5x5?

The cutting envelope is 62 x 64 in with 6.5 in of Z. The base is 70 x 68 in, overall dimensions are 88 in L x 80 in W x 60 in H, and the listed weight is 1,200 lb.

02 How is the Arc Max Ultra frame built?

It is a fully welded, unitized frame of 3 x 3 in steel tubing with a 3/16 in wall, powder coated. The gantry is low-mass aluminum with 8.5 in of clearance, on Hiwin 20 mm precision linear guide rails. The table is rated for 2 in mild steel.

03 What services does the Arc Max Ultra 5x5 need?

Table power is 110 V at 15 to 20 A. The water pan holds 120 gallons. The plasma cutter and the air supply for it are separate and sized to the cutter chosen.

04 What is special about the water table on the Arc Max Ultra?

The pan is 8 1/2 in deep and made of 12g steel. An expanded metal barrier catches small parts before they reach the bottom, and twin 1.25 in ball valves drain it. Arclight states that the water table captures 90% of smoke and dust.
