Overview

The Kjellberg iQ 4500 is the most powerful plasma power source of the iQ-Series, with a cutting current of 20 - 450 A. It is built for thick material: mild steel up to 120 mm (4.7 in) and, with the iQ-Gas version, stainless steel up to 130 mm (5.1 in).

Mild steel piercing is the figure that stands out. It is listed at 70 mm (2.8 in), and the recommended mild steel range is 0.5 - 70 mm (0.02 - 2.8 in), so on this unit everything inside the recommended band can also be pierced. On the smaller iQ models the piercing figure sits below the top of the recommended range.

The non-ferrous columns need more care, because the two gas versions are far apart. With iQ-Gas the stainless steel maximum is 130 mm and the aluminium maximum is 120 mm, with piercing at 50 mm (2.0 in) and 60 mm (2.4 in). With iQ-Gas O2 both metals stop at a 60 mm maximum. Thick stainless or aluminium work therefore presupposes the iQ-Gas version, whose cutting gases include Ar, H2 and F5.

For its output the cabinet is compact: 1150 x 695 x 1510 mm, the same as the other iQ models, at 355 kg (783 lb). The slow fuse is 180 A and the maximum connected load is 109 kVA, on mains bands of 380 - 400 V, 415 - 440 V or 440 - 480 V at 50/60 Hz. The brochure lists integration via EtherCAT or RS-485.

Frequently Asked Questions

01 What is the maximum thickness the iQ 4500 cuts?

Kjellberg states mild steel up to 120 mm and stainless steel up to 130 mm. The table lists the stainless figure for the iQ-Gas version, with aluminium at a 120 mm maximum; with iQ-Gas O2 both metals are listed at 60 mm.

02 How thick can the iQ 4500 pierce?

Mild steel piercing is listed at 70 mm (2.8 in). With iQ-Gas, stainless steel piercing is 50 mm and aluminium piercing is 60 mm. With iQ-Gas O2 the figures are 30 mm for stainless steel and 40 mm for aluminium.

03 How does the iQ 4500 compare with the iQ 3000?

The iQ 3000 lists 20 - 300 A, a mild steel maximum of 80 mm and piercing at 50 mm. The iQ 4500 lists 20 - 450 A, 120 mm and 70 mm. Both share the cabinet size; the iQ 4500 needs a 180 A slow fuse, the iQ 3000 a 125 A one.

04 What electrical connection does the iQ 4500 need?

A 180 A slow fuse and a maximum connected load of 109 kVA. The mains voltages row lists 380 - 400 V, 415 - 440 V and 440 - 480 V at 50/60 Hz. Protection class is IP 21S.
