Overview
The Johnford ST-200D is a five-metre lathe with the heaviest standard spindle: 5,050 mm (198.8 in) of Z travel, a 240 mm (9.4 in) spindle bearing and 28,500 kg (62,700 lb) of machine.
Work of this size is carried at three points, and each one is specified generously. At the headstock, a 510 mm (20.1 in) hydraulic chuck on an A2-15 nose, with a 610 mm (24 in) chuck as an option. At the far end, a programmable tailstock with a Ø200 mm (7.9 in) quill, MT#7 taper and 4,600 mm (181.1 in) of travel. In between, steady rests, which are optional and can be manual or hydraulic self-centering.
