Overview
The Hyundai WIA L4000 Series is a heavy turning center family with a 15 in (381 mm) chuck, a 570 mm (22.4 in) maximum turning diameter and a 1043 mm (41.1 in) turning length. The series table gives one spindle for all of it: gear driven, 35 kW (46.9 hp), 2,450 N·m (1,807.1 ft-lbf).
That torque figure is the point of the machine. Top speed is only 2,000 rpm, which tells you the gearing is chosen for pulling large cuts at low speed, not for finishing small diameters. For scale, the gear-driven L300A lists 739 / 622 N·m (545.1 / 458.8 ft-lbf) at 22 / 18.5 kW (29.5 / 24.8 hp) on a 10 in (254 mm) chuck. The L4000 Series has more than three times that torque, enough to keep a deep roughing cut going on a forging or a thick-walled tube near the full 570 mm.
The variants differ at the turret. WIA lists 10 stations on the L4000/C and 12 on the L4000M/MC, and live tools at 4,000 RPM on the M/MC models only. The tool capacity row reads 10 tools with 12 optional. A buyer who needs cross drilling or milled flats is therefore specifying an M or MC machine from the start.
X travel is 330 mm (13 in) and Z travel 1105 mm (43.5 in), with rapids of 16 m/min (630 ipm) on X and 20 m/min (787 ipm) on Z. Those are unhurried rates, in keeping with a machine whose cycle time is spent in the cut. For longer shafts the L4000L Series keeps the same spindle, chuck and X travel and stretches the turning length to 2138 mm (84.2 in).
