Honor Seiki VL-160CM

Honor Seiki lists two machines that turn 2,000 mm and also mill, and the VL-160CM is the conventional one of the pair: a Heavy Duty Series vertical turning center with a live spindle at 50-2,250 rpm, 16 tool positions, 2,000 mm (78.7 in) of swing and turning diameter, 1,170 mm (46.0 in) of turning height and an 8,000 kg (17,637 lb) workpiece limit.

The other is the PL-160CM, which matches the diameter and the 8,000 kg load, has a lower turning height of 1,000 mm (39.3 in), and adds a gantry-type Y-axis mechanism that Honor Seiki compares to a bridge type machining center. No Y axis is mentioned for the VL-160CM. On this machine, features off the centre line are reached by positioning the table and moving in X, which is fine for bolt circles and radial holes and less convenient for long straight milling passes.

So the choice turns on the mix of work. Mostly turning with drilled patterns and some milling: the VL-160CM, which also has the taller envelope. Heavy prismatic milling on a turned part: look at the PL.

Compared with its own turning-only twin, the VL-160C, the CM has four more tool positions and slightly less height, 1,170 mm against that machine's 1,200 mm (47.2 in). The cabinet air conditioner is standard on the CM series. Live spindle power, torque and taper are not published, nor are table speed and travels. A dual speed gearbox for the live tool spindle, high pressure coolant through the tool holder and a grinding function are options.
