Price estimate
We do not have a price for the Chevalier FVL-1250VTC+C that we can stand behind, so we show no number. Configuration, options and installation move the final price a long way: a quote is the reliable figure.
Overview
The Chevalier FVL-1250VTC+C is the live-tooling version of Chevalier's smallest vertical turning lathe. The +C adds a C axis on the 49.2 in (1,250 mm) table and a machining spindle in the ram that runs from 25 to 2,500 rpm, so drilled bolt circles, milled flats and tapped holes can be finished in the same clamping as the turning.
On parts of this size that is the whole case for the option. A 63.0 in (1,600 mm) flange weighing several tons is slow and risky to move to a boring mill and re-indicate. With the table indexing to 0.001° and turning under C axis control at 3.3 rpm, the hole pattern is machined relative to the turned diameters without a second setup.
The milling spindle has an ISO 7/24 No.50 taper and takes BT50 tooling from the disk type changer. Tools can be 19.7 in (500 mm) long. Chevalier's wording is that the +C model's live tooling offers additional flexible machining capabilities to make more complex workpieces with one machine.
Turning capacity is the same as on the plain FVL-1250VTC: 63.0 in (1,600 mm) maximum cutting diameter, 47.2 in (1,200 mm) turning height, a 17,600 lb (8,000 kg) table load and 11,461 Nm of torque, with table ranges of 3 to 150 rpm and 151 to 300 rpm. Z travel is 35.4 in (900 mm) and the beam adds 31.5 in (800 mm) on W. Weight and footprint are listed the same too, 48,500 lb (22,000 kg) and 294.5 in x 232.3 in x 219.7 in.

Strengths & Limitations
Strengths
- C axis with a 0.001° minimum index angle on a 49.2 in (1,250 mm) table
- Live machining spindle of 25 to 2,500 rpm with an ISO 7/24 No.50 taper
- Turning, drilling, milling and tapping of a heavy part in one clamping
- Full turning capacity of the base model: 63.0 in (1,600 mm) diameter and 17,600 lb (8,000 kg)
- BT50 tooling shared between turning and milling through a disk type changer
Limitations
- Live spindle tops out at 2,500 rpm, which limits small drills and end mills
- C axis rotation speed is 3.3 rpm, so contour milling around a large part is slow
- 30 sec tool change adds up on parts with many milled features
- The table gives no power figure for the machining spindle

Frequently Asked Questions
01
A C axis and a live machining spindle. The table lists a minimum index angle of 0.001°, a C axis rotation speed of 3.3 rpm and a machining spindle speed of 25 to 2,500 rpm. The plain FVL-1250VTC has the same turning capacity without these rows.
02
The machining spindle taper is ISO 7/24 No.50 and the tool shank is BT50, with a JMBTA standard 45° pull stud. Tools up to 19.7 in (500 mm) long are loaded by a disk type tool changer.
03
Maximum table load is 17,600 lb (8,000 kg). Maximum cutting diameter is 63.0 in (1,600 mm) and maximum turning height 47.2 in (1,200 mm). Table torque peaks at 11,461 Nm.
04
The table lists the same floor space, 294.5 in x 232.3 in x 219.7 in (7,480 x 5,900 x 5,580 mm), and the same net weight of 48,500 lb (22,000 kg) for both versions.
