Price estimate
We do not have a price for the Chevalier FBL-510 MC that we can stand behind, so we show no number. Configuration, options and installation move the final price a long way: a quote is the reliable figure.
Overview
The Chevalier FBL-510 MC is the live-tooling version of the short-bed FBL-510. Chevalier's description of its MC models is brief: the live tooling function offers additional machining capabilities to make more complex workpieces with one machine. On a lathe that swings 44.7 in (1,136 mm), the practical meaning is that a heavy part is not lifted onto a second machine for its holes.
Maximum cutting diameter with the driven turret is Ø34.6 in (880 mm). The turning-only model reaches a larger figure, so check the outside diameter of the part against this limit first. Cutting length and Z travel are both 41.3 in (1,050 mm), and X travel is 19.3 in (490 mm).
The table is thin on the milling side. It lists 12 tools and a turning tool size of 1 1/4 in x 1 1/4 in or 32 x 32 mm, and nothing else: no tool system, no driven tool speed, no C-axis figures, no Y axis. The MC columns of Chevalier's smaller box-way lathes name a BMT interface; this one does not. Anyone buying driven holders needs that from the maker.
Everything else is the big frame. The spindle nose is A2-15 and the speed 1,000 rpm, the tailstock is programmable with an MT 6 quill 7.9 in (200 mm) across, and the machine weighs 33,000 lb (15,000 kg) on a floor space of 249.8 in x 117.2 in x 99.6 in. The control is a Fanuc 0i-T.

Strengths & Limitations
Strengths
- Live tooling on a lathe with a 44.7 in (1,136 mm) swing over the bed
- Ø34.6 in (880 mm) cutting diameter with the driven turret
- 12-tool turret for 1 1/4 in or 32 mm square shanks
- Programmable tailstock with 41.3 in (1,050 mm) of travel
- Net weight of 33,000 lb (15,000 kg) behind the cut
Limitations
- No tool system, driven tool speed or C-axis data in the maker's table
- No Y axis is listed, so off-centre milling is out
- Spindle speed is 1,000 rpm
- Spindle bore and bar capacity rows are contradictory and not shown

Frequently Asked Questions
01
The MC model has the live tooling function. In the table the only row that changes is maximum cutting diameter: Ø34.6 in (880 mm) on the FBL-510 MC and Ø37.0 in (Ø940 mm) on the FBL-510. Travels, spindle, tailstock, floor space and weight are printed the same.
02
The maker's table does not name one. It gives the number of tools, 12, and the turning tool size, 1 1/4 in x 1 1/4 in on S.A.E. machines or 32 x 32 mm on metric ones. There is no tool system row and no speed or power for the driven stations, so request those details with the quotation.
03
Maximum cutting length is 41.3 in (1,050 mm), the same as the Z-axis travel and the tailstock travel. Longer live-tool machines in the series start with the FBL-520 MC, which has 78.7 in (2,000 mm) of Z travel.
04
An A2-15 spindle nose running at 1,000 rpm. Chevalier states that the lathe features up to a 60HP spindle motor satisfying most cutting conditions. The specification table carries no motor row, so the rating of a given machine has to come from the quotation.
